Microsoft Stock Plus Dividends: Better Than Bonds [View article]
While the momentum will pull MSFT down some more (most likely), let us not forget that the news (not so sure it was bad) was also on the ex-div day...compounding the fall. Personally, I'm thinking most of the bad news is baked in.
Microsoft (MSFT), whose tablet launch this week drew a bit of media attention, may also be developing its own smartphone, "industry sources" tell Nomura's Rick Sherlund. If the rumor is true, Nokia (NOK), which has bet its increasingly threatened future on Windows Phone, can't be thrilled about it. (Windows Phone 8) [View news story]
MSFT will end up jobbing phone and tablet production out if they end up having a hit.

you didn't get my comment.
The established car companies can move into this segment at their leisure. They don't need to rush. All they need to do is get a foot-hold on any percentage of their old customers and Tesla will forever be a boutique company. The fact is that the technology is not so revolutionary that it protects any "assumed" future market share.
Tesla will, most likely, never make a profit. I hope it does...but I not betting on it.
Though analysts are impressed with Microsoft Surface (MSFT +3.7%), few see it as a huge threat to the iPad (AAPL +0.6%). Jefferies' Peter Misek thinks Microsoft will need to "significantly undercut" the iPad on pricing (something that's unlikely given its specs) to be competitive, and argues the iPad's 225K+ apps set it apart. However, Forrester's David Johnson believes Windows RT's management features, user interface, and Office support will appeal to enterprise users. (more) [View news story]

I'm rooting for TSLA, I would love to see a new auto-maker enter, and remain, in the market. What keeps me from investing is the fact that the biggies can afford to enter that market slowly; and over time, use their deep distribution channels to overwhelm a company like TSLA before the exponential growth digs in.
All the so-called experts have been trying to call the Natgas market bottom for months and months. Up to this point they have all been wrong.
With all the capped supply that is easily introduced back into the stream, prices are more likely to trade in a low range for quite awhile, rather than begin a new trend up.

The Summer is still young. I'm long also, but I think we'll see the middle part of last year's trading range ($26-27) hit in the next few months. There's just too much chaos in the world markets.
As for the dividend, I don't think they'll slow down until they are on par with the likes of INTC, MCHP, etc.

How anyone can make so many assumptions on the world macro is , well, suspect. From my viewpoint, the risk is going against materials, industrials and banking for the next 12-36 months.
So let's do some back-testing then...with an extreme example. I took my first position in MO in 1988...pretty hard to beat. I can't even figure out what the total return has been.
Seriously though, this argument is stupid because a well diversified portfolio, built to last, has cyclicals built into it, my average weighting is about 10-15%. I have been a long-term holder of CVX and FCX, and have been building a position in ETN for the past year. Still uninterested in banks. I nibble when the market goes pitch black, trim when things get out of balance and re-invest dividends the all of the time. BUT, at no time do I leverage my accounts to what my guess of the cycle is.
A plan by Philip Morris (PM +1.1%) to buy back $18B in shares on top of its lush 3.66% yield makes it an enticing stock for conservative investors, argues Barron's Dimitra Defotis. Though the stock trades with a forward P-E ratio higher than the multiple on the S&P 500, opportunities in emerging markets and the strength of the brand could justify the premium. [View news story]

no way. They would loose a whole class of investor in one hit. MSFT is working their butts off trying to build an "investor-friendly" reputation. All they need to do is be consistent. I'm investing like they will be.
Celgene's (CELG) board authorizes the repurchase of an additional $2.5B of the pharmaceutical company's shares, which it will carry out in the open market or in privately negotiated transactions from time to time. (PR) [View news story]
They would do allot more for their shares if they began a dividend.
