  • Chesapeake (CHK +0.5%) is raised to Hold from Sell by Deutsche Bank, citing the new $4B loan which increased liquidity to $4.7B. "With this financing, the company has alleviated one of our major risks giving them the runway to sell assets and finance FCF burn. While natural gas pricing risk is still an issue, we have seen pricing firm in the last couple of weeks."  [View news story]
Are we talking about CHK or Greece? It's beginning to blend.

Bob, I hope it pays off for you. Icahn's motivation are usually not the same as the average investor. I'm not touching this thing, but I also closed my short position. Spectator only...more interested in a DVN, APA or even SWN on any rebound.

  • Tokyo Electric Power (TKECY.PK), Mitsubishi (MBFJF.PK) and shipping company Nippon Yusen (NPNYY.PK) are in talks to pay $4.4B for a stake in Chevron's (CVX +1.2%) Wheatstone natural gas project in Australia. It's one of several Australian LNG projects aiming to meet rising Asian demand, as Japan ramps up thermal power generation after the Fukushima disaster shut all its nuclear stations.  [View news story]
Interesting, I don't think Americans have a clue as to how much this project is anticipated in Asia and Australia.

  • As Chesapeake (CHK) confirms its $3B bridge loan has turned into $4B, Sanford Bernstein notes if CHK’s debt pile amounts to more than 4X its trailing four quarters of EBITDA, it would trigger a cascading bond default. Given anticipated producing asset sales decreasing EBITDA, along with lower natural gas prices, "the ratio has the potential to approach, if not exceed" the threshold by Q3 or Q4.  [View news story]
    No, governor of California.

  • Cheniere Energy Partners (CQP -3.5%) agrees to sell $1.5B in stock to investors affiliated with Blackstone (BX) at a 40% discount to the company's Monday closing stock price, in its continued aggressive effort to raise funds for construction of the Sabine Pass natural gas export facility.  [View news story]
Total B.S. they must be desperate for immediate cash. They could have done much better on a secondary offering if they wanted to take the time.

It makes me question the leadership of the company. Blackstone will end up selling most of that also.

They also allowed their German division to go BK, which was good for the company overall, but bad press.

Very good information, lots of food for thought. I've been toying with this on my own (from scratch in Excel) it's been a rather frustrating project.

-What software bundle are you using?

-Are you factoring a commission for your monthly re-balancing? If so, what's factored percentage?

Oil has been getting crushed lately, that's the biggest reason for decline. The analysts have been out of sync (or should I say, slow to adjust) with this company for a long time.

The good part is you may be able to buy some more at almost a 9% yield again.

  • And now to the rescue: Chesapeake Energy (CHK) says it's gotten a $3B unsecured loan from Goldman Sachs and Jefferies Group, to be repaid from those 2012 asset sales.  [View news story]
You seem pretty emotionally attached to this company. Have you ridden the thing all the way down? Goldman gave a nice loan, they did not buy equity in the company.

I'm just not willing to bet on this company in its current state.
