  • CommonWealth REIT Board Sends Letter to Shareholders Highlighting Its Business Plan and Governance Progress [View article]
Portney's had decades to do the right thing.. they didn't. They bled the shareholders with excessive fees and poor execution. They purchased property just to get fees up. More assets equaled more fees, ROE or FCF did not matter. Anyone would be better than the Portney's. Horrible people the Portney's, will be glad to see them gone.

  • Staples: Even Category Killers Get Killed [View article]
I would offer up to you all.. that Staples needs to offer everything Radio Shack does, thus capturing their revenue with a final BK for RS.
And.. expand into mail box rental and shipping services and postage..
And offer graphic design services with printing and other tech related.. website design... to small businesses.
While they have these leased spaces.. they should offer the needs of small business to get the traffic up within the store.
    We shall see.

  • Staples Disaster Offers At Least The Potential For Competing Explanations [View article]
I would suggest that Staples does not need to close store but increase the range of items and services within their stores.. ie mailbox and postage services, computers with assistance or bring your own webdesigner, adobe software etc ( so small business can get custom design assistance) and offer essentially all that radio shack offer (put the final nail in their coffin). We shall see.

  • Exelon Cuts Dividend, Market Yawns [View article]
I don't agree with EXC mismanaged their cash flow. Once the bloom was off e expected prices, they held the div .. actually no increases for years.

They had been looking for more regulated businesses to merge or buy out for more stable cash flow .. failed once or twice before constellation.

They continued to invest in stable long term generation projects.. their wind and solar. Although I don't like them as they cost more than other sources, they do have stable long term profits built into the contracts.

What do you think they should have done with cash flow?

Stock price being down is not all managements doing. Investor had it too high in 07 and now too low. I see management as stuck in a business that has poor profit margins.. due to extremely low gas prices.. not really their "fault" but just the environment we are in. It will return to normal and so will stock price.

I have been waiting for years.. but am long EXC now with shares and perhaps sold you those puts... Jan 15 30s got 4 and 5 for them. Sure hope EXC is 29.99 in Jan 15.
I agree 2013 will not be the turn around year, but if you can wait 5 years, this ship will turn and be rewarding.
    Good Luck to all.

  • A Top Income Idea Revisited [View article]
Good article, can tell you know the company by responses to Qs.

I sold a few puts on FTR Jan 14s at 5, getting around $2 overall. and got some shares. Happy with it and will hold until expectations change, which is hopefully a long time. I think they are slowly turning the ship. I sure hope it take just a little longer.

Hate to say it, but I reallly don't want them over $5 in Jan 14. What details do you think will push them over $5? If revenues actually rise. If margins increase with flat revenues? I doubt they will increase dividend, that is a few years away. Paying off debt is already expected, should not be a factor. Thanks.

  • Frontier's Dividend A Potential Investor Trap With A 9% Bait [View article]
If you like FTR below 4.5... it looks like you will get your chance, as it broke 200 day and should retest 4 and maybe 3.5. I am not a technical guy but that is what it looks like to me.
I will be right there with you adding around 4 and even more if we can get below 4.. I certainly hope so. Come on 3.50 !! ...

  • Frontier's Dividend A Potential Investor Trap With A 9% Bait [View article]
Last conference call or investment conference, it sounded like they were hoping for flat revenues going forward. Most of their infrastructure was in place and now marketing was focus. While access lines may still decline due to stand alone internet not being an access line... I think they are on the mend, solid offerings and will do OK and keep paying dividend, (possibly raise it in 2015). Also, mentioned that cash on hand plus FCF will allow them to pay off all maturities thru 2014 and most or all of 2015 too, so look for debt to decline from here on out. I was pissed when they refinanced the 2012 debt at a cost of 30M, they should have just paid off with cash on hand, what a waste of refi costs. I do think they will just pay off debt with FCF for next 2 -3 years. I am holding and dripping.

  • Does Entry Point Matter To A Dividend Growth Investor? [View article]
Thanks for interesting article. Possible idea for future research.

I tend to follow a DG with entry at value price process. I manually turn on or off DRIP for many holdings depending on my determination of value for that stock. Then accumulate cash to add to other value holdings or new positions. I have thought that a DRIP if below 200 day MA and no DRIP if above would yield better returns than a constant DRIP or perhaps a DRIP if meets some other criteria and accumulate cash if not. Hard part of analysis may be how to incorporate cash being invested in other value holdings during the period annalized as the complexity would increase.

    Thanks again.

  • Frontier Communications: Dividend Reinvesting Gone Bad [View article]
I like FTR below 5, actually been buying some. $3.50 would be wonderful. But I doubt it. Worst is that div goes to 40 cents, still 10% at this price.
I expect a decent CC on wed or thurs, line losses in range, traction on dsl and other services, integration going to plan with 600M in savings for 2012...
Then a rally due to short covering and decent news. Nothing is scarier than no news, everyone expects the worst, especially those VZ shareholders that got the stock for free a few years ago. They are the selllers of 2011, along with some institutions when price dropped below 5.
I expect stock to be 7-8 in 2 years paying the 75 cents. And 10-12 paying $1 in 4 years. Just have to be patient.
Heck, they could cut the div to 0, use cash flow to pay ALL debt off in 10 years. If they need to cut to 40 cents and pay off 400 million of debt a year, thats OK.

  • Widening CEF Discount May Indicate Better Future Performance [View article]
Interesting article. I have been following GUT, one of the over rolling average premium CEFs. This CEF is at a 50+% premium. I certainly hope that it preforms less well than other CEFs. Actually I am amazed that a CEF can even trade at a 50% premium. This must correct itself at some point.
Are there any comment on, How a CEF stays at such a premium for extended periods of time? My thoughts are dumb investors or reinvestors.
