"In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way." -Master Yoda
I work as a Senior Associate in a Top 20 CPA and Business Advisory firm. My area of specialty is enterprise cloud software, though I have an extensive professional background in the retail and hospitality industries as well. I have been investing for over 20 years with the primary goals of a comfortable early retirement and philanthropic endeavors.
I am an individual investor in retirement, mostly looking for ways to beat inflation with moderate risk. However, I also have a passion for entrepreneurship and the environment, and keep some money invested in higher risk companies that have a chance of building the future.
I am a former sell-side analyst -- UBS 1996-2002, Needham 2002-2006 and ThinkEquity 2006-2008. These days I review automobiles and other technology products, as well as analyze the automotive and technology industries, and coming up with long/short ideas. I also continue to write (less frequently) on macroeconomics and politics.

After following the markets for years, I started actively managing my portfolio in 2010. Plenty of misteps and a few victories have brought me to the point of wanting to share my experiences and gather feedback from this community.
I'm still learning the more advanced strategies for options and currently investigating futures trading, I want to bring my perspective to the investing world and hopefully generate some alpha along the way.
I tend to focus on a few names at a time to determine their trading patterns before intitating anything. I've learned that patience is a virtue and to not rush into trades. There are always more opportunities though I still struggle with "the trade that got away" syndrome on my darker days.
I hope anyone reading my articles is able to get some valuable information out my opinions and experience, and maybe a chuckle once in a while.
I am interested in finding short term trading strategies that result in a positive EV over time, as a way of generating income and personal freedom. On the other hand I enjoy betting games, and view my trading like betting poker hands. The longer term strategy would be to funnel trading profits to solid dividend payers, as a way to cash out of the casino. If you like my work, feel free to contact me.
Studied international affairs at the George Washington University with a focus in economics.
