  • Technological Advances Raising the Cost of Living [View article]
I have become progressively less enchanted by Larry Kudlow in the past few years. I have to agree with Mr.V.J. about inflation. Postal rates rise relentlessly. Our taxes have increased. And we do buy food and fuel constantly before we buy computers, Tvs, etc. The spread of inflation is gradual but steady and insiduous. Larry Kudlow needs his medication adjusted. Jim Fisher, Mount Dora, Florida

  • Reflections on GE's New Compact Flourescent Lightbulb [View article]
My wife and I have begun to convert our home to the new bulbs. The light quality seems to be excellent. In considering cost savings over time, if the bulbs last as long as predicted, inflation should also become a realistic factor. Further, electricity where we live costs around 20 cents a KW. • What? Inflation? [View article]
I very much respect Barry for his analysis of financial trends. I have a great fear we are going into stagflation similar to the 1970s. Powdered skim milk has gone up ten cents a quart. First class postage has gone from 34 to 37 to 39 and now 41cents per ounce. The cost of a certified letter has increased exponentially. I suspect Central Banks all over the world are pumping out fiat banknotes to supply liquidity. the term: "watered stock" now seems to apply to the world's currencies. greytop77.

  • Why Globalization Is Boosting Inequality in Developing Nations [View article]
This posting is certainly an eye opener.About 20 years ago I dropped a fair piece of change in two businesses in Central America. My impression of the Latin American countries I have been in is that there never has been "capitalism", only mercantilism and feudalism. No matter whether the country is officially socialist, capitalist or whatever, the country is controlled by a handful of powerful and influential families that live in splendor behind high walls topped by broken glass. They usually have a private army protecting them. Most normal functions of government a open to bribery. The postal systems are so bad that each modest business has a 19 or 20 year old driving a small pickup truck to make payments such as utilities and collect various stuff. The powerful families have franchise business operations and rake in the money leaving everyone else destitute. No wonder so many millions struggle to come to "el norte" to find work and the rule of law. Jim Fishewr...gator52@atla...
