7/25/2014 - I thought I would update my profile today. It has been an interesting 2 years since I started my investment adventure. So far I have done very well, but I'm not sure if it was me, the overall market, or a combination of both. Most likely it was just luck, but I would like to think that luck was helped along by following my own personal investment rules. The times I have stuck with my rules I have been rewarded, the times I have not followed my rules have been mixed, some good, most not so much. I have learned my risk tolerance, which is actually pretty high. I've learned I like to buy stock in companies that people hate at the moment, because when they start to love them again... I'm in a nice position. I
learned I'm not a trader, I think to long term to be worrying about stock prices right now, I have to many other important things to do like play Lego's with my kids.
List of my rules:
1. Never buy a stock with negative EPS.
2. Never overpay.
3. Adequate margin of safety
4. Pays a dividend
5. Use a limit order... never a market order.
6. Ignore rumors and speculation.
7. Don't follow the heard
2 years ago - I'm fairly new to investing and enjoy reading the articles on Seeking Alpha. Most of my investments are in my companies 401K but am limited to the funds available under the plan. I recently opened a brokerage account with a small amount of money to practice what I am learning. So far it has been fun and educational. I have learned what kind of investments I like, and what I would avoid in the future.
