Steve, I agree, as I am long from a few months earlier, and have patience. I am more hesitant on agreeing with limited downside conclusion however, time will tell and I will add on further weakness.

Chowdah, My thinking has followed yours in that I own it (32 year old) but do not consider it viable for my parents portfolio that will be in the distribution phase in 5 years.

    Regards,

    John

Sir, thanks for the reply and all the tools and insight you share with the community. I am long in my accounts as well, however I am hesitant to add in my parents accounts, as they are 5 years from depending on the stream of income. I have 30 more years to add and be patient, my parents do not. In my opinion, the cyclicality will benefit myself, but is the exact reason I think I will look elsewhere for my folks. Again, thanks for all you do.

    Regards,

    John

Deere just declared .51 for the 5th QTR in a row. For a retiree depending on raises to be consistent in order to keep pace with inflation one might consider this to not be a viable option for that portfolio.

KMI in my IRA and KMR in a cash account for tax advantages. I believe the moat warrants not having to choose between the two.

  • Young 'Incomers' Portfolio: An Introduction [View article]
Congrats on the portfolio goals. We are both in an early accumulation stage. I am a bit older, 32. I choose to stick to entirely DGI, with the exception of $LINE. I add in pairs to my portfolio. For example, I bought $CL and $T, $JNJ and $O. Some companies, such as $ WEC meet both criteria as a stand alone. I see the low yield, high growth as a delayed gratification, and the high yield as the instant justification. My goal is to have high current yield be a small part of my portfolio accumulation in the next five years. I had a High Yield bond fund, and still have it in a portfolio I manage (distribution phase will start in 5 years), however it no longer met my rules for my own portfolio with a distribution phase in 25 years.

I find the lending club interesting, and much like my own rush for yield with $LINE and $ LNCO, it meets my criteria for a speculative play, so I believe I understand the drive.

As some have said above, $KMR might be a good alternative to $KMI, however I choose to hold both.

I find my largest challenge in portfolio construction is finding the Challengers and Contenders that will be Champions in 25 years. My suggestions would be the Kinder group, $CHD, $CBRL, $ AMP, and I follow the best on here for ideas that I may have missed. The latter three have lower yields, with Church and Dwight at high valuations as compared to intrinsic value, adding at sound valuations seems challenging. MR. Tweed penned an article about it recently, and confirmed my own thoughts on its potential.

Just some thoughts, I appreciate your article, and will be looking for a follow on and updates.

Please provide a link showing ACA created MORE jobs, as you suggest. November shows more jobs historically. I could not Google it (and find your assertion), as you suggest. I could however find fact, and it does NOT show your assertions. Again, please validate your assertions.
