  • Nokia May Announce Earnings Any Day Now [View article]
I think the important ratio is Lumia to feature phone sales, assuming NSN and HERE meet the guidance. Will Lumia sales and Asha be enough to compensate for the Symbian decline?

  • Nokia's (NOK) unit in India receives an income tax demand for 20.8B rupees ($383M). The tax dispute covers five years beginning in 2006. [View news story]
Isn't the news that NOK was granted a stay by an Indian court in the well-known tax affair? The fact of a tax bill was already known. Alternately, it could be news that the outstanding amount was reduced (if that's the case).

  • Should Microsoft Make A Smartphone? [View article]
This is from your own InformationWeek link:

"The 18-month support window should ultimately benefit users. It's intended to support a cycle of regular OS enhancements in the mold of Apple's iOS refreshes. More frequent updates should yield not only cheaper upgrades but also quicker access to new features."

  • Short Interest For Nokia Is At An All-Time High [View article]
Nokia, with its broad line-up of Lumia phones at all price points, is better positioned to handle Eurozone issues than BBRY or AAPL and possibly even Samsung if quality/design/price is a factor.

"Windows Phone" is practically an anti-brand. It's not windows. It sounds like a description, not a name. The company is headed by a steroid and Red Bull addled combination of a 90's power player and a Dickens protagonist. The irony is that the phone UI experience is one of the most interesting things to come along since the original iPhone.

I think MS stumbled into a good mobile OS, but I wouldn't trust them to handle either the marketing or the hardware (very well at any rate). I get the feeling that they don't completely know how to approach what they have currently without the added burden of developing the hardware.

Nokia is doing as good as anyone possibly could with WP right now.

They (eventually) won some litigation last year related to supposedly making overly optimistic pronouncements about their results, so I don't think they will be too cavalier about these kinds of changes to earnings forecasts.

I tried to skim the 288 page document, but didn't find anything more specific to Q1. Unfortunately I have a job and a boss ...

Just dropping my persistent cynicism for a moment, this has to be a harbinger of good things coming. NOK has been consistently low key about its announcements of good news, so I think that this probably means that they have exceeded their own expectations for Q1 to be able to predict even better results farther down the road. I'm always cautiously optimistic, but I can't see how this can be anything other than particularly good news, especially since they are including NSN in the positive outlook.

  • Entry Level Lumias Should Grab Market Share [View article]
That little comment on the colors caught my attention, too. I suppose it could be just the overall complexity of the phone and anticipating demand in various markets rather than a single breakdown in the supply chain.

  • Here's Why We Think Nokia Is Worth $5 [View article]
Nokia makes over $1B per year in vehicle and personal navigation devices and services. This is a relatively high margin business for them. It has recently been branded as "Here" and could perhaps generate even larger revenue through advertising as well, with recent new strategic partnerships with Mozilla (Firefox OS), Toyota, Groupon, and Oracle.

@systemB added this as a stock talk last week (with no description, just a link). The price target is about $5.33 (4 Euro). There were two upgrades last week and $NOK dips slightly. Feels like Rodney Dangerfield.
