So far I've resisted the urge to "day trade" the stock on volatility, and have cost myself a lot of money, but I got in early, and am protecting my profits with simple stops. I'm probably going to start pulling profits out soon. However, I'm maintaining a nominal investment just because regardless of the risks, its clear there is potential here with this company. I'm cautiously optimistic.
I agree that there is a lot of emotional energy around Tesla. As much as I've done on the researching consumer appeal of it, I'm not knowledgeable enough about the engineering of the Model S to go hog-wild. I didn't buy one because it's not all wheel drive, and I live in a cold snowy climate. The car should handle well regardless due to the lack of a heavy front end engine allowing for greater weight disbursement, but until it's street proven and not on a computer model, I'm not putting $60,000 in for a car.
If people are really as confident as they sound about this stock blowing up to a high price, I'd ask them to put their money where their mouth was and go all-in to buy LEAPS.
