  • How Will 3D Printing Impact The Manufacturing Industry? [View article]
We are all prognosticating here, but if we want to dream big, think of marrying 3D printing with nano-technology.

  • The Sequester Doesn't Cut Spending At All [View article]
"If the very high levels of federal spending in the last four years failed to create a robust economy, then lower levels could arguably be a much-needed stimulus."
What? Do you have data of this occurring in our world?

  • The Election Could Be A Positive Surprise For The Market [View article]
I follow and greatly appreciate your columns, as I find you use data to make your points, better than most pundits. What surprises me is I can look at the same data, in the same format, and find that they support the actions of Obama. This happens time after time in your columns. You take the approach that Obama is using the correct methods and getting the correct results, but someone who is more conservative and a true believer in supply side economics would get the same results, but with more purity of purpose. Therefore the results would be better.

  • Energy, Imagination And Politics: A Toxic Cocktail For Your Portfolio [View article]
I really like what you have to say in this article. But it seems to be the same editorial you wrote last year...and the year before. In the meantime, I am still holding Johnson Controls and it is down 33%. I believe Exide is doing even worse. If your forecast comes true, but it is six months late, then you are correct, but your timing is off. If your forecast is off by three years, then you are wrong.

We got it, Galt. But if you feel compelled to explain it, you may be a little insecure.

This may be a better place to start in the U.S. Electric bikes have lower risk and better payback.

Wait! You believe the Iraq war was not about oil?...and we are incredibly naive?

You have high credibility about the technical aspects of battery development, about supply and demand, about physical constraints, and about finance Maybe you should stay away from politics.

  • The Eurozone Recovery Continues [View article]
Or, maybe, both the U.S. and Europe have finally rejected the Austrian Economists. Maybe they realize stimuli to the economy can lead to avoidance of the depression that would otherwise occur.

  • Warren Buffett's new positions, according to Berkshire's (BRK.A, BRK.B) latest 13-F, include 27.1M shares of Phillips 66 (PSX) and 2.8M shares of National Oilwell Varco (NOV), but he dumped his entire 7.7M-share position in Intel (INTC) and sold two-thirds of his 29M shares in Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). [View news story]

  • Thoughts On Why Real Growth Has Been Disappointingly Slow [View article]
The results are in, Jim A, read the facts. The limited spending the U.S. has done has outperformed the austerity measures put in place by other countries. Your dislike of Obama may be affecting your ability to profit from the recovering economy. Do not let your emotions interfere with your ability to make rational decisions.

Wonderful response, Tom. Your first sentence sums up what I have been thinking about Pundit. He has this periodic trend where his data and his analyses are very good, right up to the point his logic jumps off the track. I think he gets caught up in politics.

Has anyone done an analysis of what would have happened if the federal government had tried to deleverage at the same time all of the rest of us did?

  • Eurozone Crisis Has Not Proved Contagious [View article]
I think we should let the facts speak for themselves, rather than force our political opinions on them. The U.S. has not tried to starve the patient; Europe has. This fact leads to the differences in the recovering economies. In fact, if you compare the U.S.'s recovery to all recoveries of major economies after major financial crises, we are doing quite well. Stop second guessing success. Look around. If we had followed your suggestions, where would we be?

In the U.S., we also have a system of rationing healthcare. It is called "ability to pay." If we have the money or the insurance, we get treatment, no matter what the condition. If we do not, then we just stay home and die, usually without morphine, or wait for the condition to get bad enough that the government pays for the treatment anyway, only at much higher prices (as we are now treating what may have been prevented).
