  • Four Stock Implications of Google Blog Search (GOOG, IACI, MSFT, YHOO) [View article]
Hm I don't know ... I like your angle, but I am not sure that I agree with it. It is easier to hit a lot of blogs because they run on specific domains (OK, many don't but still). Livejournal, Blogger, Typepad, MSN Spaces etc. I think you might be trying to work backwards from the assumption that Google Finance is coming. In fact, what Google has done for Finance is pretty minimal, sure you can enter the ticker in the search box, but not much more than that. And Yahoo allows that anyway. For people who use Finance regularly it is pretty easy to type. I agree that Yahoo Finance is looking increasingly out of date, and the news is poor, but Google still has a long way to go. And I am sure Yahoo is doing something about it.

I think an equally plausible interpretation of the way Google has addressed Finance is that it filling in holes with polyfilla and hoping no one notices it's just stopgapping.

  • Google Still Outgrowing Yahoo, According to comScore Stats (GOOG, YHOO) [View article]
Going back to the topic ... you would need more detail to answer your question. Does the Google portfolio include searches from its partners like AOL (presumably). At one level, Yahoo will grow more slowly because it is already ahead, and the bigger you are, the slower you tend to grow (eg comapre Yahoo Shopping with Froogle, or Yahoo Mail with Gmail). Jeff Weiner did say at SEO World in New Orleans that search.yahoo.com has not competed on a par with Google because Yahoo has not got round to promoting it yet, hence the slower growth.

  • A New Platform for The Seeking Alpha Network [View article]
Hm, do you mean I could have solved some of my issues if I'd taken two seconds to figure out what I was doing, and wasn't so busy pontificating? Thanks for the prompt responses in both cases :) .

    1. I don't like having to login every time, and will eventually stop commenting on blogs that make it difficult for me to comment. It also means the effort is being transferred from the service provider (deleting spam) to the customer (who now has to log in). Battelle tried login and tried a question-check but dropped both. Especially your login, which does not allow me to set my own password. What would work though, is what connectedinternet.co.u... uses, which is a persistent login so I am always logged in whenever I visit. That would be fine. Or if you can't do that, at least allow me to set my own password.
    2. Either layout is fine, having two columns on one side seems unbalanced, but all the rest seems OK.
    3. Seems like a good idea, as long as the "stocks covered" link at the top of the first column is more prominent so I can find it easily and immediately.

  • How to Predict Google’s Next Product (GOOG) [View article]
I love your blog but this is just sycophantic. If Google's recent products have been fulfilling anyone's dreams, that person needs a bigger dream machine. Gmail did not make any dreams come true, it's just another alternative. Sidebar? Who dreams of that. Web accelerator? Please. Desktop Search is very nice but technically not, or only, as good as its competitors.

And Google Talk is a pathetic dream fulfillment, and boy have we waited a long time to be disappointed by it.

You know what I dream about from an IM client (and don't forget the core audience for IM is teenage)? I dream about Habbo-like avatars that can just walk around my screen without being logged into a 3d-world website. I dream of an easy way to create my own emoticons. I dream of instant play for games like Medal of Honor and Command & Conquer without needing the software. I dream of truly seamless joint web browsing (on first release, they have had enough time to do it). I dream of instant money transfers integrated into IM. I dream of mobile integration outside the US. I dream of instant perfect translation. I dream of an IM client that makes it easy for me to find beautiful women. I dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal
