Ernst and Young estimates more than 400 billion bbls of oil equivalent in the major Arctic areas. Russia with 52% of the total is what excites me for the Rosneft/NADL/SDRL partnership.

go-4-it we need you here even if it is frustrating. Stay and contribute. You have many friends on this site. PI can do what he wants as it doesn't affect my thinking any. If he dialogued he sometimes has good points but not when they are done in the manner he has chosen as a insultor and confronter.

I sure won't buy PBR stock until this is cleared up. Brazil is a hell-hole right now.

The Fleet Status report shows it at $582. That is less than 3% differential for the 2 GOM rates. It will be used in the GOM so doesn't compare to the Renaissance that is in West Africa.

I would say this is a very attractive rate in light of the recent softness. It certainly indicates that newbuilds and high quality equipment will obtain rates reflective of that equipment. Slight differences in rates always happen when you factor in location, client specified equipment, staffing, travel distances, operating cost factors, labor agreements, local tariffs and fees. Don't expect the exact same rate even in the same drilling basin. That is unlikely to happen as each rig has its own cost structure.

I don't own RDC but this contract will make me reevaluate. I wish they paid an industry competitive dividend.

I dropped my Motley Fools subscription once I started reviewing the blogger experience and prior commentaries. I saw comments from people that seemed to have never researched an industry before. I don't need to pay good money for that.

Yes, on NADL. Just imagine Rosneft locking up NADL's rigs for the next decade or more. Their plan envisions major development in the Kara and Barent's Seas over the next 10 years. Rosneft has executed more than 50 MOUs with major vendors around the world in the last few months targeted at Arctic Seas development projects. NADL has been identified by them as the primary vehicle to get the oil out of the ground wherever it is found in the Arctic areas. I see that deal as worth billions for NADL and likely SDRL as well. I am doing my homework on this issue and think that NADL will be the big beneficiary. Of the 35-40 harsh environment rigs NADL has about 25% of the total. That is pretty good market dominance for a very high tech and very specialized expertise.
