  • Who Is The Devil? Will Gilead Fall Or Soar In 2015? [View article]
Without the high price patients would not have access to either regimen because the research dollars would have never been spent to develop them.
Merck, Pfizer, Bristol Myers et al have all had recent huge multi-billion dollar loses on potential drugs that failed in the later stages of development. Those loses can only be offset by huge profits from the very few that make it all the way to blockbuster status. Based upon the risk involved in drug development would you risk your money if the price of the product was going to be determined by insurance companies or governments?

  • Awilco Drilling: A Whopping 39.1% In Dividend. What Is The Catch? [View article]
Almost no one has lower costs than AWILCO so I don't think they will lose a deal on price.

They cannot limit Plugging and Abandonment so that part of Capex for all drillers will probably increase going forward not decrease.

    User 9221031,
"Bottom line is that it would be mid 2017 before the company would come under and real danger of a negative earning event. And if oil prices are still in the $50/barrel range 2 1/2 years from now, there will be a lot bigger problems in the world at large and in the oil patch than Awilco's profits dropping a little bit between now and then."
    Right on the money.

Drew, the Hess contract is abandonment work (Plugging and Abandonment) which is required by law even if oil is $10 a barrel. There are at least 10,000 wells in the NOrth Sea that will require P&A in the next few years so specializing in P&A would be a great idea for AWILCO.

The Feb. 2016 option is for 275 days there is no way they are 275 days ahead of schedule. Hess is delaying because they think they can get a lower rate by waiting. They will sign up the only question is the price and of course the vendor.

Because Hess thinks they can get it cheaper later (lower day rates).

  • Intel FY 2015: Mid-Teen Earnings Growth Attainable [View article]
They didn't say 5% sales increase they said 3.5% in 2015 and 6.5% in 2016.
They also said gross margin in Q3 2014 was 64% but GM in 2015 would be 62% + - 2% so GM likely to go down unless they hit the high end of their estimate.
Also since Feb 2014 they have spent $14b on buybacks (at lower share prices) and only decreased share count by 3%. The rest went to employees stock options. S assuming a large share count reduction is iffy based upon the last 3 years.

  • Will Volvo's Plug-In Electric SUV Make Life Difficult For Tesla's Model X? [View article]
"A hybrid is always a set of flawed compromises"
jim, better compromises than no options in the middle of Wyoming in the middle of winter.
We live in the age of backup and Volvo will have it while Tesla does not.
BMW, Volkswagon, Volvo et al gas/electrics will eat Tesla's lunch until then.
Tesla - great idea, 10 years early. They will be an outlier until then.

  • Intel: My Take On The Intel Investor Meeting [View article]
kj, you are missing the point. First, disagreement is not criticism. I am sure Russ would be the first to admit he as on occasion been wrong.
Secondly an 18x large cap tech stock is hard to find these days.
    That's the point.

  • Intel: My Take On The Intel Investor Meeting [View article]
RSA, would you not agree MU has fewer qualifiers, more earnings visibility and a lower PE thus more likely to hit your price target for them?
I can't think of a large cap tech stock selling at 18x.
    That's my point.
