  • Applied DNA Sciences' Technology Critical in Conviction of Thieves

Applied DNA (OTCQB:APDN)Technology Helps Convict Two Criminals

Applied DNA Sciences (OTCBB:APDN) announced today that its SigNature DNA technology, a botanical mark used to authenticate products in a unique manner that essentially cannot be copied, and provide a forensic chain of evidence that can be used to prosecute perpetrators, has again proven critical in the conviction of cash-in-transit criminals.  The SigNature DNA product has been growing in popularity internationally and its value is being reinforced through an ongoing track record of proven results.

Today’s news announced that Colin Waddingham was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict of cash-in-transit robbery and associated offenses and sentenced to eleven years imprisonment.  Waddingham had robbed a Loomis driver of a cash box at a Shell Petrol Station in Acocks Green, Birmingham, United Kingdom.  DC Danniel Halford of the West Midlands Police Department commented that “SigNature DNA was critical in linking the recovered cash to the defendant."

This latest conviction adds even more validity to APDN technologies as the Company continues to emerge as an industry leader as conveyed through the comments of Tony Benson, Risk Director, Loomis UK, when he stated, "We are pleased with the sentencing of these cash-in-transit crimes. We are especially gratified that since the deployment of SigNature DNA in Loomis cash boxes, we have sent cash-in-transit criminals to jail for an accumulated total of more than 120 years."

Additionally, in London, the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad was aided by Applied DNA’s taggant in the conviction of Alpesh Daudia of two separate cash-in-transit crimes.  Daudia was stopped and searched under suspicion of a robbery and the taggant provided evidence that the cash on his person was money stolen in a previous robbery of over a year earlier that had not been linked to him.  Commenting on the value of the taggant, Sgt Andrew McGuire, of the Flying Squad, stated, "The investigation highlights the importance of APDN's unique DNA taggant as a tool to track those who commit these crimes. Without these, I doubt either crime would have been solved, nor Daudia brought to justice."

The Applied DNA Sciences DNA security solutions protect products, brands and intellectual property from counterfeiting and diversion.  The technologies have been used in a variety of applications including usage to mark luxury products and link them to specific owners.  Recently, the DNA platforms are gaining traction in the military and police markets as a result of the press of convictions and performance in cash-in-transit services.  Applied DNA CEO, James Hayward commented “Recently, we have been fielding inquiries for our cash-protection platform throughout Europe and Asia."

Shares of APDN have been on a climb over the last five weeks after hitting a low just over three cents per share.  December brought about a climb in stock price that touched nice cents before retracing.  On the news release this morning shares gapped north and are still holding gains of over 12% as the price per share is holding over seven cents on strong volume with more than 800,000 shares changing hands.

More information on Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. and its products can be found on the Company’s website at www.adnas.com.

  • Attitude Drinks (ATTD.OB) to Debut Phase III Recover Vanilla in November

Phase III Recovery ChocolateAttitude Drinks, Inc. announced this morning that it will begin marketing Phase III Vanilla in early November to meet the demands and requests of current and prospective customers and distributors.  The recovery drink is the world’s first shelf-stable, real milk beverage and will complement the chocolate flavored Phase III already available by Attitude.

The new flavor is formulated using the same scientific research as the chocolate drink with the optimal 1:1 protein to carbohydrate ratio to maximize post exercise recover and support lean muscle growth.

Roy Warren, CEO of Attitude Drinks, stated, "For Attitude Drinks, adding a second sku will enable larger retailers, distributors and others in the beverage industry to place significant orders, and help further our penetration across the United States beverage marketplace.”  Mr. Warren continued, "While 50 percent of Americans' favorite flavor is chocolate, vanilla is widely reported as the second most loved taste in this country. Adding vanilla to our product line helps Phase III reach a much larger consumer base; specifically those who want the recovery value of real milk, but either don't like chocolate or really, just want a different flavor."

According to Mr. Warren, this is just the first extension of the ultra-filtered, real milk recovery drink.  Attitude anticipates bringing additional flavors to market in 2011 as the Company plans to continue to deliver a superior source of protein in a variety of flavors in the rapidly growing sports recovery drink arena.  Attitude is innovative in its beverages in that the Company is exploiting recent scientific evidence of the benefits of real milk and protein as an exercise recovery aid.  It was February of this year that saw the first drink of this nature launched commercially by Attitude Drinks.

Late in July, Attitude Drinks announced the appointment of Maximum Marketing as a sales marketing agent covering a vast majority of the country.  Maximum Marketing is the largest, most successful independently owned regional brokerage company in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast. Founded in 1991, the company's sixty five sales representatives have relationships with natural and specialty distributors, retail chains and independent stores.  While a larger national roll-out is still progressing, Attitude, through its distributor in New York, High Five Distributors, has strategically placed Phase III in retail outlets in virtually all channels of trade in NYC. Phase III Recovery can currently be found in over 100 retail outlets around New York City, at many locations in Brevard and Palm Beach Counties in Florida, or ordered online on the Company’s website at www.attitudedrinks.com.

  • Access Pharmaceuticals (ACCP.OB) MuGard a Possible Therapy for Michael Douglas

The news of Michael Douglas and his throat cancer announcement last night on “Late Night with David Letterman” is trending everywhere on the web.  It was top subject on Twitter and is covering front pages of websites.  On Letterman, Michael announced that his cancer was detected three weeks ago and that it has been diagnosed as in being in “stage 4.” Mr. Douglas also stated that he just began his first round of radiation and chemotherapy as therapy.

While well-wishes, thoughts and prayers are being sent to Michael from every source that discusses the topic (and my family sends ours as well), I can’t help myself from thinking about mucositis.  Perhaps I spend too many hours digging through emerging biotechnology companies and the compounds that some of them possess.  Be that as it may, it is still a genuine concern of those afflicted with cancer.

Mucositis is a frequent adverse effect from chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  Technically, it is defined as “the painful inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes lining the digestive tract.”  While mucositis can appear anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, oral mucositis specifically refers to ulcerations and/or inflammations within the mouth.  There are several levels to oral mucositis, all of which can be very painful, but Grade 3 (unable to eat solid foods) and Grade 4 (unable to eat solid food or drink liquids) are particularly debilitating.

The bad news for recipients of head and neck radiotherapy is that this particular radiation is most often associated with Grade 3 and Grade 4 mucositis.  It is serious, to say the least, as percentages of those that will suffer from either one of these higher grades of oral mucositis can be in excess of 70%.  The other bad news is that there is no established treatment to prevent oral mucositis.

There is good news.  Access Pharmaceuticals’ (OTCQB:ACCP) MuGard™ is an approved proprietary nanopolymer formulation for the management of mucositis.  MuGard, a ready-to-use oral rinse, has been clinically proven in a study to reduce the incidence and severity of mucositis.  A particularly interesting piece of data from the study showed that out of the patients that were given MuGard, 43% of the subjects developed no mucositis at all as compared to only 7% in the control group.

It is this author’s understanding that the good people of Access Pharmaceuticals are attempting to reach out to Mr. Douglas in an attempt to make sure that the movie icon is aware of their product and to hopefully ease any discomfort that he may have as a result of the radiation and chemotherapy.  Best wishes, Sir.
