  • Update: Favorable Court Ruling Makes BP A Strong Buy [View article]
    I'm glad to put this trial behind and let the company move forward. That was a dark cloud hanging over the stock for a long time. Not all rose colored glasses now but better than before the ruling.

  • AT&T: The Next Big Thing For Dividend Investors [View article]
    I've had great service and the LTE coverage is really pretty good. I think T is making some good moves with their NEXT plan as well. They are also rolling out next generation high speed internet to certain cities. http://bit.ly/1i95Eet

  • Unplanned Early Retirement, Part 1 - Strategy, Stability, And Moving Forward [View article]
    Kevin -
    What a well written article. It was an enjoyable read. Based on what you've described and the portfolio you have consider yourself fortunate. It's taken me 35 to realize the DGI strategy is best for me.

    Thanks for the article and looking forward to more from you.

  • It May Be Time To Sell Out Of High-Yielding AT&T [View article]
    mostserene1 -

    Thank you for your comment. It was a laugh out loud moment when I read it. Sadly, there is a lot of truth to your comment. When I make changes (sell) any quality company I end up having seller's remorse.

  • My Dividend Portfolio: Q4 2013 Update [View article]
    Integrator -
    Thank you for the update. I appreciate your thought process and strategies.

    Robert -
    Always enjoy your comments too. In fact, have one of your comments on the desktop:
    My rules for selling have boiled down to:
    a) reduces the dividend;
    b) freezes the dividend;
    c) eliminates the dividend;
    d) earnings deteriorate;
    e) business model deteriorates;
    and I don't think I would sell merely because of temporary overvaluation.

  • Procter & Gamble: Growth Beyond Buybacks? [View article]
    bg6638-2,

    I am in the IT field (not for IBM) but I concur with your thoughts on what "Big Blue" has done. They were the top dog with their 390 series MVS Mainframes and their FE's were great - but lost their way. Every IBM consultant I've seen is an H-1B person and not impressive.

  • My Dividend Portfolio: Evaluating AT&T [View article]
    Integrator,

    We think along the same lines regarding dividend objectives. My regret is not figuring out this strategy years ago. I hold T as a core holding of the DG portfolio. I don't expect T to grow too much but there are plenty of things they can do to streamline their operations and help their bottom line. Hopefully they can penetrate Europe through some Voda deal. As long as they keep their dividend and increase it year to year it will remain in the portfolio.

    My DG is comprised of the following:
    AEP, AFL, BP, CINF, CL, CLX, COP, CVX, ED, GIS, HCP, JNJ, KMB, KO, LEG, LLY, MCD, MO, NWN, O, PEP, PFE, PG, PM, PNY, SYY, UL, VZ, WM, WMT, XOM

    Thanks for the article, Tim. I am long BP and the biggest concern is the litigation for the GOM spill. Tuesday will be interesting with their Q3 earnings and hopefully a divi increase.

    Nice article Ryan. I enjoy your posts. Once the spill is "in the rear view mirror" BP will be back on track and rewarding the patient investors who have held on. Long BP and XOM.

  • Tobacco stocks trade lower as higher Treasury yields are taking just a bit of the shine off the group as a good dividend income play. Decliners: Altra (MO) -2.1%, Reynold American (RAI) -2.2%, Lorillard (LO) -2%; Vector Group (VGR) -1.7%, Philip Morris (MO) -1.8%, British American Tobacco -2.3%[View news story]
    And all these companies have better balance sheets than the U.S. and better yields.

  • Gold Vs. Coca-Cola [View article]
    Those are wise words Tim. I only wish that I would've had the "buy and hold" strategy in the 80's when a co-worker told me to buy Philip Morris (which split into Altria, Kraft, Philip Morris International). I bought KO before the most recent split and never plan on selling it.

    Thanks for your articles Tim.

  • How Much Is AT&T Worth? [View article]
    I believe mobility speed and connectivity will climb for a quite a while all helping their bottom line. The pension obligation is an albatross they are saddled with and is probably the least attractive part of holding T. I'm DCA at $32.45 and plan on holding it for many years to come. The divs pay a chunk of the T smartphone plan.
