I am a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Submarine Service, who began a career in the investment business after separating from the Navy in 1991. I am currently an investment adviser that follows a value-based investment philosophy. I have earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. The book that has most influenced my investment philosophy is The Intelligent Investor, by Benjamin Graham. I also enjoy reading books about Warren Buffett, and books authored by Joel Greenblatt, Peter Lynch, Howard Marks, and Seth Klarman. I believe to be a successful investor, it is critical to "know oneself" and to develop an investment strategy and process that matches your personality. (If you are not a patient person, I believe following the value investment philosophy will be a challenge). For investors with the so called "Value Investing Gene" referred to by Warren Buffett, the value investment strategy will likely yield exceptional results over extended time periods.

I write about dividend growth stocks on my website www.dividendgrowthinvestor.com.
I am mostly a buyer of high quality dividend stocks, with solid competitive advantages. My holding period is forever, as long as the dividend is at least maintained. I tend to concentrate my efforts on stocks which grow earnings and dividends, which provides outstanding total returns over time. I only focus my attention to stocks with sustainable dividend payments. I am also a firm believer in diversification accross sectors and geographic locations.
I have been focusing my attention particularly to companies that regularly increase dividends to their shareholders on my website. On my blog I share my thoughts on investing in dividend paying stocks that have consistently increased their payments over time and tips on growing my dividend income. I hope that my blog will serve as an inspiration for my readers and that it would change their financial lives for the better.

Founded in 1990, TrimTabs Investment Research is the leading independent institutional research firm focused on the supply and demand of shares of stock and the money available for investment. Our key premise – which we term Liquidity Theory – is that stock prices are a function of liquidity rather than value. Like the prices of any tradable good, the prices of stocks are driven primarily by supply and demand.
Unlike most quantitative stock-evaluation models, which focus on easily available price, volume, and earnings data, Liquidity Theory insights depend on detailed data on asset flows and how they shift over time. Since data on the supply and demand for stocks is scattered across so many sources, most strategies ignore stock market liquidity altogether.
By maintaining detailed quantitative models that track key areas of market liquidity and changes in the supply and demand for equities and equity-like vehicles, TrimTabs provides our clients with comprehensive real-time analysis of all aspects of equity-market liquidity.
On the supply side, we measure changes in the float of shares by aggregating corporate actions. On the demand side, we track the money moving into and out of the stock market by measuring the flows into and out of mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and hedge funds. To obtain an early edge on future liquidity trends, our Real Time Macro research focuses on real-time measures of consumer income and employment. Tony Abbate, CFA is founder and Managing Director of Granite Value Capital, a Hanover, NH based investment management firm.
Tony received his BBA in Finance and Business Economics from University of Notre Dame in 1992. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1997. Prior to starting Granite Value Capital, he worked for nine years as a Portfolio Manager in Fleet/Bank of America's Private Wealth Management division.
Tony has thoroughly studied the teachings of the value investment philosophy set forth by Benjamin Graham during the 1930s and 1940s and expanded upon by Warren Buffett and other investors in the second half of the 20th century. In 2000 he completed a study of every publicly traded company with a minimum market capitalization of $25 million (over 5,000 companies) in the United States. From this study he created a universe of about 1,500 stocks that he continuously monitors.
Tony's equity investment selection process focuses on minimizing three elements of risk: business risk, balance sheet/bankruptcy risk, valuation risk. Tony looks at stock ownership as owning an interest in a business. His goal is to own a portfolio of companies with return and risk characteristics that are superior to the broader market.
