Don't count on the yen appreciating or slowing its depreciation...but this stock is still a good buy, I'm long. Surprised you didn't mention their $31bn deferred tax asset or margin expansion potential. Also, the most significant catalyst from the removal of the 'government motors' stigma is that the treasury stopped selling their shares near the end of FY 2013 which means no more downward selling pressure on the stock.

    Good read none the less.

  • The Nikkei (NKY) surges and the yen (FXY) plummets after the Bank of Japan starts firing the heavy artillery in its battle against deflation. Under new Governor Haruhiko Kuroda, the BOJ is changing its target when setting policy from the overnight call rate to the monetary base, which the bank aims to double within two years by purchasing ¥60-70T of assets a year, including government bonds of all maturities and not just short-term debt. The plan is open-ended and was unanimously approved. The Nikkei is +1.3% after being lower earlier, while the dollar is +1.5% vs the yen. (PR[View news story]

You better believe Bass is still on his widow maker trade. His fund has been killing it the last 5 months as the Yen continues to plummet and after Kuroda's guarantee last night, will continue to do so. As Bass said, "Short the Yen, buy gold, and go to sleep".

Couldn't agree more. The PND market, which makes up over 50% of Garmin's revenue, is in a secular decline as mobile phones become bundled with navigation devices for FREE. Garmin will get hit especially hard from this as their products are priced at a premium to other PND companies like Tom Tom (trading around $5/share. Yes, GRMN does have other revenue streams like Fitness and Aviation, but they represent a very small piece of the puzzle.

I'd also look at DXJ, the Wisdom Tree ETF that tracks Japanese equities while hedging yen exposure. DBJP, another hedged ETF does the same thing. Both are up big in 2013 with massive record inflows.
