  • Ford gives dealers a push to clear inventory [View news story]
This is a weak move. It is the same lazy marketing that GM did right before they went bankrupt. It pits the small to medium sized dealer against the large ones. This would have never have happened under Alan Mulally because it's not One Ford.

  • Morgan Stanley sours on Ford [View news story]
I think Morgan Stanley's concern is based on their July remarks on the complexity of the F150 retooling and launch of the aluminum bodied F150. They are changing everything involved in the production process of the sales and profit leader in the US for the last 37 years. It's a big risk but if the get it right it will be a huge profit producer. If not, watch out. I actually believe it's a buying opportunity.

  • Ford Motor's (F) May 2014 U.S. Sales Conference Call (Transcript) [View article]
Ford is reloading. They will covert more than just F150 to aluminum. All large SUVs and Pick ups including Expedition, Explorer, Navigator and F250. Already contracted for the extra aluminum and will take competitors at least 3 years to catch up. More to come.

  • Highlights from Ford's annual meeting [View news story]
The reason Ford was wise enough to hire Alan Mulally and steer themselves away from the bankruptcy rocks and into clear sailing was the Ford family. Without their long term view this would not have happened and today's shareholder meeting would not have been so happy, if it had been at all. The Ford family and their voting block gives Ford a center of gravity that you don;t see in GM or Chrysler. Give all the credit to Bill Ford for being so insightful as to find the right guy to replace himself as CEO. Now that's the real story.

  • Should General Motors Investors Recall Their Stock? [View article]
The situation at GM is worse than many realize. If you recall, NHTSA could not explain why the Cobalt, etc, airbags did not deploy when the key was in the accessory or off positions. That is because airbags are design to deploy regardless of the ignition switch position. Here it is. Automotive News is reporting today that GM may have a flawed defect in the algorithm in the Chevy Impala's that stops the airbag from deploying. It is alleged that as many as 143 people have died because of this in addition to the 13 known deaths in Cobalt. Here is the link:

I believe that upper management, including Dan Akerson, know what was happening. That is why Akerson left. He recently took a position as Vice Chairman of Carlyle Group even though he claimed that he had to spend time with his ailing wife.

Bottom line, there will be a lot of bad news coming from GM in the future.

  • Ford's Raptor Is A Symbol Of The Company's Growing Dominance [View article]
It's called competent management. Ford understand the truck market and truck buyers better than their competition and they really know how to turn that advantage into higher margins as well as increased market share. A powerful combination that boosts the bottom line.

  • Is Ford About To Go On A Major Run? [View article]
Correction. The Ford Fusion Hybrid sales stated in this article is incorrect. The figure might be for all Fusions, not just hybrids. It has been quoted in SA previously in error. Fusion hybrid sales for April 2013 was 3,625, which still beat Camry. Ford Motor Co. sold a total of 8,481 hybrids in April which includes C-Max and Lincoln MKZ. For all of 2013 total Ford Motor Co. hybrid sales were 29,561. Ford's hybrid sales performance has been excellent and will continue to increase. Please verify your data.

  • Ford (F) says it will pass its full-year record for hybrid sales this month as demand for the new C-Max and electric Fusion looks strong. In April, the automaker delivered 35,034 Fusion hybrids compared to the 3,257 Camry and 19,889 Prius hybrids Toyota moved. What to watch: Analysts are still bickering over the impact of lower gas prices on hybrid demand heading into the summer, but Ford appears poised to grab even more hybrid market share. [View news story]
While I love Ford I have to point out that this sales figure for Fusion Hybrid is wrong. The actual sales for the Ford Fusion Hybrid in April of 2013 was 3989, up by 400%, according the the official registrations as quoted in Detroit News article. Total Ford Motor Company hybrids in April was 8481 which includes Fusion and C-Max. Toyota still holds 58% of the US hybrid market, down from 71% from this time last year. Please check these articles for accuracy before publication.
