  • Norfolk Southern - High Yield Link In The Railroad Pipeline [View article]
Great article Norman. I bought NSC @ 58. I sold my entire position in Apple to focus on building a safer more reliable dividend growth portfolio. Friends said I was crazy to sell Apple to buy a railroad. Since then NSC is up 12% and Apple is down 25%. And the dividends keep rolling along. Ha!

I also own UNP and CSX. Fuel price increases will hamper the trucking industry, and after doing my DD homework, I think the railroads are a solid long-term play. I also own a couple pipelines to diversify my portfolio against the cyclical nature of coal rail shipments.

  • Keep Your Dividend Champions In A Roth IRA [View article]
TGC, like you and many others on this site I have also developed the habit of paying my future self first. It is a challenge to live below your means but I am currently able to contribute 50% of earnings into div growth stocks held in Roth IRA and taxable accounts. I am in my 20s and make under 30k a year but this financial sacrifice should pay off considerably down the road.

Gratian, I liked your views on the taxable account as a personal disability insurance, or worst case scenario. Decades in the future, if one stays the course, it could be a best case scenario! Cheers.

  • Are These 4 Tobacco Stocks' Dividend Yields Safe? [View article]
MO is a dividend machine and the business is solid. There is a good chance that the feds will eventually legalize medical marijuana. If Altria decides to get into the business (they are in a strong position to do so) this will provide additional profit-sharing returns to MO shareholders in the years to come.
