Note 4/10/2013 from Savita at Merrill. OVERWEIGHT: Tech, Energy, and Industrials. UNDERWEIGHT: Utilities and Telecom MARKETWEIGHT: The rest. As business picks up and growth resumes, capex is expected. Old Tech, Energy, and Industrials have relatively low P/E and are still cheap. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Cramer's Mad Money - 13 Things To Watch In The Week Ahead (4/5/13) [View article]
Cramer's genius, enthusiam, and great sense of humor inspires us to be better than we are. His courage in the jaws of market uncertainty calms the frightened. Few humans have the gifts of Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Omnipresence, and are short and bald. If he were 6'7" and could slam dunk, he might be president.
I'm long AA JPM and WFC. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Why Won't Exxon Consider Valuation When Buying Back Shares? [View article]
I'm going to quit insulting Mr. Oswitt (Gerry). Anybody that has $3MM Exxon stock is rich way beyond my dreams. He ought to put half that in something safe like 10-year US Bonds or CVX. WOW! GWBJ.

New weekly Value Line Market comment. My summary. 4/4/2013.
GDP may have risen 2% in 2013Q1. We believe pickup is sustainable.
Any headwinds will come from Europe. Investors remain bullish. Value Line is cautiously bullish, but mindful of an overbought market and extended valuations. From the 1700 stock survey: 4/4/2013 P/E 16.8 Yield 2.2% Appreciation Potential 45% AT THE MARKET HIGH IN 2007 P/E 19.7 Y= 1.6% Appreciation Potential 35%.
Author's comment. It's risky business in the stock market. I mostly talk by phone with Pam, my broker's secretary. I don't know anybody in Woodville that buys stocks or uses the Internet. Thanks! GWBJ.

Received note from Quantitative Analysis, Merrill, Thursday 4/4/2013. I hope you are doing better than their professional fund managers. Private clients, institutional clients, professional fund managers, and hedge funds, have been net sellers while only ETFs have been net buyers. Today's bulletin: 27% of large cap funds out performed in 1Q 2013. 14% of growth and 14% of value managers beat. Overall averages of funds lagged. Active stock selection may add more ALPHA. My broker is giving me the Alfred E Newman treatment. "Savita is still bullish!". Thanks! GWBJ.

  • EMC: As Growth Begins To Accelerate, Shares Remain Undervalued [View article]
Continue from above (below). Savita 4/2/2013. My summary of her reports. Only ETF's bought by private clients were net buyers in 1Q2013. Only Telecoms and Health Care had net buyers. NET SELLERS were Financials, Staples, Energy, and Materials. Technology didn't get honorable mention.
Sentiment and Management Guidance. All sectors have seen twice (2X) as much negative as positive guidance so far this year, and last month was more sparse and weaker than normal. History suggests risk to earnings estimates are ahead. 2013 EARNINGS WILL BE FLAT. Mark Faber, 4/2/2013, predicted a "1987- like correction". Author: "Like a thief in the night." (ST. Paul). I don't think we can have a ragin" bull without Tech and Energy. Thanks! GWBJ. I'm standing pat. I've survive about 5 crashes over the last 30+ years. GWBJ.

  • EMC: As Growth Begins To Accelerate, Shares Remain Undervalued [View article]
I am long EMC. I bought my first in 6/11 for $27. On 4/2/2013 I bought another 100 shares at $23.77. I am in the red. My habit is to look at Merrill's research and Value Line before purchasing any stock. I lost my work sheet in a big pile, but here's Merrill's report on 2/28/2013.
Merrill C-1-9 BUY (no dividend) Morningstar BUY S&P BUY. I thought it was bargain. HOWEVER: Ron Insana of CNBC and Mr Griefield (?) CEO of the NASDX(?) both independently reported that there are few if any private investors entering the market, and most of the buying is by ETFs..Savita, at Merrill, reported the same. Private clients, institutional buyers, and hedge funds are net sellers while only the ETF are net buyers. WOW! Back to question whether EMC is Value, potential grower(cloud), or just a value trap. Only time will tell. Continued below(above).
