The last two weeks HPQ has been the #1 top stock on the OVERBOUGHT Merrill hit parade. It's about to blast off. ALL ABOARD. I still have some of that old expensive stuff ($35--$45), but there is enough free Testosterone out there to put me over the top. As of 2/28.2013:
Merrill B-2-7 NEUTRAL Morningstar HOLD S&P HOLD
    I'm holding. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Buy Qualcomm; It's On Sale [View article]
Agree, I'm long QCOM. Mary Ann Bartels keeps up with OB/OS in the S&P 500.. Her most recent report showed XOM QCOM EMC and AAPL at the very bottom of OS. Guess what? HPQ was the top of the OB. Thanks! GWBJ. XOM plans to spend about $200 billion the next five years buying up reserves and expanding the light ends unit and petro-Chemical plant at the Baytown Refinery. Their stock may not soar, but if it drops below $80 I'm going to catch the falling knife. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Western Union: Simple, Understandable, And Undervalued [View article]
I think WU gives good service. I've sent cash to graduate students in Cambodia and China for about ten years once a month and never an error. The fee is $11.90 for transfers less than $1000. Since the "wet backs" went home their business has been down, but housing is picking up, and there's cotton to pick, cherries to harvest, yards to clean etc. and they'll be back. Our youths won't do that kind of work, anymore. My son, who was GG Champ and played linebacker on the varsity three years in high school. "Dad! You don't want me to join the Marines. Do You?" "You damn right, son. Get you bag packed, and I'll carry you to the recruiting office."
He didn't want them to cut his pony tail.
I've looked up WU twice in the past. Merrill had NEUTRAL to UNDERPERFOM, and I didn't think the potential reward justified investment. Thanks! Different strokes for different folks. GWBJ.

  • Sell Johnson & Johnson As It Is Over Extended [View article]
I remember Peter Lynch saying JNJ was cheap ($92) in 1988 or so, and said it should be a core holding. That's been my observation since Merrill downgraded it, and I sold after their latest packaging problem and hip prosthesis law suit. People just kept buying, and their stock has kept going up and up. It's probably a good buy at $78, but I'm waiting for it to get back to $68-$70 where I sold it. As of 2/31/2013. JNJ Merrill A-2-7 NEUTRAL Morningstar BUY S&P BUY. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Cisco Systems, A Strong Buy For Multiple Reasons [View article]
About 3 months ago Merrill published a list of favorites for 2013, and CSCO was #1 on the Technology hit parade. I have hated, loved, and owned CSCO for 10+ years, and it's like a middle aged marriage. The next one might be worse. I had this high school buddy (Homer) who was a successful Houston building contractor, told me the worse thing he ever did was divorce his aging wife and marry a cute young chick. At the time I saw him at our 60th reunion he had a penile prosthesis.
Merrill CSCO B-1-7 BUY Morningstar BUY S&P BUY. Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Microsoft: What's The Upside? [View article]
So am I. Merrill just bought 26,000 HPQ PC with Win 7, and according to their analyst many or most large companies haven't switched from XP yet. I switched from DELL PC with Win XP to HPQ with WIN 7. I'm 83, and a line telephone, 10 year old TV with satellite, and desk top PC serve me just fine. When you add wireless, batteries and recharging, social, mobile, and kids, etc the charges and bills pile up, and you are paying more to be trendy than for the basics. Merrill forbids their employees laptops and cell phones. What will MSFT be worth 12 months from now? I'd guess $34, but with market mania it could be more, lots more. From my monthly Merrill statement 2/28/2013.
    ticker Merrill Morningstar S&P
    MSFT B-1-7 BUY BUY BUY
    INTC B-1-7 BUY BUY HOLD
    CSCO B-1-7 BUY BUY BUY
    ORCL B-1-7 BUY BUY BUY
I think most serious long term investors have these four stocks tucked away in their portfolios. It's like the old rugged cross--"-I'll trade them someday for a crown." Thanks! GWBJ.

  • Cramer's Mad Money - I Don't Like These Newfound Bullish Fellow Travelers (3/12/13) [View article]
Saturday morning 3/16/2013 Woodville, Texas. Friday night I read several reports from Merrill and Value Line summing up the market situations and predicting the future which if allowed by the SA editor I will share with you. I end up by listing Mary Ann Bartel's favorites for 2013 and beyond. I only list those stocks I possess in my IRRA, unless so designated, so you'll know they passed my test along with Merrill, Morningstar, S&P, and Value Line.
3/15/2013 Value Line: the 1700 VL stocks average P/E of 16.6 Yield of 2.2.%, and 3-5- year appreciation potential of 50%. Your Bull was dipped today. Don't worry, he'll be running free next week. The equity market is overbought and needs some profit taking. A correction is due. Merrill Lynch: Stocks and bonds were down a fraction today and investors preferred CASH. Mary Ann Bartels 3/12/2013: The confirmed break to the upside pushes the correction back further in the spring and increases the probability of
    a 10--15% correction. . RESISTANCE LEVELS: 1. 1560--1576 2. 1600--1625.
SUPPORT LEVELS: 1. 1530-1525 2. 1500--1485. Holding 1530--1525 keeps breakout intact. NEAR OVERSOLD: MO PM XOM UNH OVERSOLD: COST AAPL.
Mary Ann's favorites in my folder.
Consumer Discretionary PIR $22.24 Merrill C-1-7 BUY SIRI $3.24 C-1-7 BUY STAPLES: MO $34 A-2-7 NEUTRAL WMT $73 A-1-7 BUY. • Sell Home Depot: It Is A Bad Dow Stock [View article]
In our shopping Mall (Gateway-Beaumont), parked cars and customers are crowded in the following order: WMT HD and LOW. Building has begun in the $150,000 and up, and the Mexican laborers are back. It looks like 2005+. You can't buy a $250,000 and up close to an Elementary or Middle School and every kid in high school drives his own car and hooks up by cell phone. They are sending their opposite gender friends scantly photos of themselves and hook up during classes in the school parking lots. The nurse furnishes free condoms, courtesy of the government.
I'd say that HD is way overbought, and I could kick my butt for selling out at $48 which was Merrill's target at the time. We are entering Gatsby times, and who can predict the future, not I. I need a plexiglass belly to see where I'm going. I remember when Tech stocks went hyperbolic, and I sold LSI at $95( bought at $7). My Oracle went to $80,000, and my broker advised HOLD. It split, and I sold half leaving me with 1000 at $40 which I still have, and it took 10 years to get back to $36. I'm not going to sell ORCL until hell freezes over. Get you a plexiglass belly and go see the Wizard of OZ. I saw the "Dorothy" version in Corrigan, Texas when I was about 6. I'm 83, and I'll buy HD when it gets back to $40 if Merrill still has it a BUY. Thanks! GWBJ.
