As a heavy user of google spreadsheets and docs, I've thought a lot about this and concluded at least for now, MS has not much to fear. I think you're absolutely right in that people will want to use and share the documents in different ways. The main reason I use the spreadsheets like I do (aside from wanting to try it out) is simply to use it from multiple machines. But there are different ways to accomplish that goal w/o resorting to actually working online. The only key is must be saved online. Sharing could potentially be done through the actual clients in a peer to peer fashion, although here, how the behavior works is less clear what is ideal and perhaps the browser starts to become a better model. But I don't believe this is the primary way people use Office documents, so using a software model based on a non-core use case makes less sense to me. Thanks for the submission.
