Chinese ADRs Still Outperforming Chinese Stocks [View article]
Anyone know the best way to play the Chinese ADRs? I assume FXI to start, but are there any more ETFs that include more than just 25 mostly state owned companies?
Why I'm Exiting Canada, Brazil and Australia ETFs [View article]
Clearly you are a technical analyst and not a long term holder based on fundamental trends. Nothing wrong with that, but it seems to me these ETFs still have a lot of upside based on the inevitable emerging market infrastructure buildout. JMHO
Life After Coal: Coming Sooner than You Think [View article]
Prepare my portfolio NOW for peak coal? Okay, I'll immediately sell all of my coal stocks and buy wind, solar and other renewables with the proceeds in anticipation they will provide more than the currently less than 7% energy source for generating our electrical requirements. Maybe a 50 year long term outlook might be appropriate? LOL!
Sectors Benefiting from BRICs' Growth [View article]
You stated the "capital appreciation" for POTand MOS does not look attractive. Except for the financial crisis which unjustifiably brought their share prices down along with the entire commodity sector, their fundamentals, along with those of AGU and IPI, going forward appear to be decoupled from their share prices and tell a much different story. Am I missing something???
The Real Reasons Fertilizer Stocks Are In the Dirt [View article]
Interesting analysis. Totally pessimistic, although ending on a slightly optimistic note. Perhaps the most important reason for the current selloff is the financial crisis, which reason was missing from your analysis. Those reasons you listed as the cause of the decline would not hold water in the absence of this crisis. Can you imagine saying what you are saying now back in June of this year?
Deciding Between Mutual Funds and Their ETF Equivalents [View article]
Murray, I suggest you stay with index mutual funds and enjoy your 5-7% gains...whenever the overall market is thriving and not tanking. But that is not the way to build "a solid financial future"....unless you are 5 years old and have time to waste. The remarkable 20-30+% gains of many focused ETF's may be more risky, but that risk is offset by their growth potential. There is no conclusive answer to all this, but I would opine that most mutual funds will cease to exist within the next five years. Am not sure how far that path to Dublin may be, but I would like to arrive as soon as possible while the sun still shines.
