  • Apple Sanctioned In VirnetX Patent Case For Obstructing 'Unfavorable Testimony'  [View article]
aferrara01- the engineer's claims about the patents are so irrelevant that Apple took their ball and went home so the engineer couldn't answer, taking a massive sanctions risk, which VHC requested and the judge granted. If you don't think the sanctions are a big deal, you must not understand attorney-client privilege.

  • High Conviction: The Buffett of Burgers  [View article]
Looked at his first baby, Western Sizzlin? He lost over a third of the franchises/franchisees in a little of four years--with no sign of the drop off slowing yet. Stock stayed flat, revenues from the restaurant business plummeted. Steak N Shake is too early to call, but certainly has the potential to come crashing down. All that money not going into the restaurants will catch up with the business within a few years. I'd say with Western Sizzlin he got bad results and with Steak N Shake he's using unsustainable business practices--he's "painting the walls" (his wording) when what he'll need in time is new equipment, remodels, marketing campaign, etc. You can take all the R&D expenses out of a technology company and still have great profits for a few years, but eventually the music stops and the game is over. I don't think starving Steak N Shake of capital is much different, but time will tell.
