  • The Real Deal On REITs And Rates [View article]
I have lost about 20% paper value on several REIT preferreds. THe main problem I see, regarding interest rates, is that the rate fears are already priced into the shares. That usually means a bottom has been reached. But, IMO, in this case, it means that when there are new rate increases, or rumours of, a fresh new round of downs is coming, IMO. THanks for the well-writ and more objective (compared to the other author mentioned) article.

  • Annaly: Never An Investment Vehicle For The Fainthearted [View article]
I own NLY preferreds, at over 7%, a yield I'm happy with, as these prefs trade virtually flat. They'r not free of risk, but a better ride than the common. Thanks for the article.

  • The REIT Way To Become A Disciplined Dividend Investor [View article]
Still hyping DLR?, all whilst hyping "protect your capital at all costs" ?
Cognitive dissonance is not contagious, but denial is. I own DLR preferred and it has not yet found a bottom.

  • 7% Yielding Preferreds For Income-Hungry Investors [View article]
Your point about entry point is for me the most important. If you buy at a bad price, and I did that, your next most important point will be that the compamy calls the stock at the call date--which, if it doesn't call, is to me a nasty outcome of preferreds in general when, especially compared to a bond, and usually not worth the better yield--when you buy hi. I don't think DLR, and it's G series--I don't follow other pref series-- is done dropping.

  • The Biggest Little Secret In Money Management [View article]
There is a new type of "active" management----algorithims invented or licenced by various companies to "rebalance" customers' portfolios. The rebalance is done in accord with indexes, but I see this as sorta active, since the initial selection of "risk tolerance"--I think it's a bogus concept, tho I don't know why (yet)--is a way of timing the market in advance, even tho the buy/sell for rebalancing is a reaction after the fact (the algorithim signaling a rebalance).

    Thanks for the article.

    Not mentioned:
After hi cable prices, the cable (settop) box-- it's big, it's for rent (from Optimum), and it's basically a vending machine you allow into your home. Netflix, Youtube, Apple, et al, bypass this encumbrance, (notwithstanding the inescapable fact that the internet conn is suppllied by the very company that supplies the cable box.)

Youtube has been my favorite thing on the internet, in general, but I haven't gone there to "get lost" in an involving drama, not yet.. You are rite about it's potential, but why the hype?

Thanks much for the article, very interesting, and good news. But I would also hope to see similar productions as House of Cards being produced by Google, in addition to "attracting" these small players who use their techfrastructure. Netflix, has the best idea, in "manufacturing", if you will, it's own hi grade content that stands up, at least somewhat, to HBO's.

Thanks for this well-writ article! It's a whole subject I've been ignorant about. I would go for an ETF before individual companies, but when's good to buy into one I wouldn't know.
