  • Can You Ethically Invest in Unethical Companies? [View article]
In general Wall St is anti-main st. My income from MO (don't own it, but) could be donated to cancer research, thereby re-directing MO's gains to that which they engender. But it's ALL academic, more an exercise designed by one's own super-ego (conscience) to pad the perimeters of one's "comfort zone". Most peeps into "the environment" breed, and drive cars (maybe big ones, owing to the breeding). Never the twain shall meet ...

  • The Triple Net REITs: Buying 'All-Star' REITs At 'Bench Warmer' Prices [View article]
Prices, with a few upblips, will continue to drop--every time therz a "scare" or an actual rise in rates the prices will fall more. The recent reactivity to rumors of or actual interest rates rising are already priced into shares--this is not "good". The prices are neutral, the reset button pushed, more than once, and they will react afresh--down--when and every time new interest "news" breaks.

  • Income Asset Classes And The 'Taper Tantrum' [View article]
Thanks much. Interesting view on utilities, and I think I better act on it--I own a ton of em, and a trim won't hurt. mREIT and REIT preferreds, IMO, will continue to react down whenever there's a rate scare.Altho the price of the "taper tantrum" (wisht I thawt of that fraze) is already priced into these shares, another rate scare will start the down trend anew.

  • The Biggest Little Secret In Money Management [View article]
There is a new type of "active" management----algorithims invented or licenced by various companies to "rebalance" customers' portfolios. The rebalance is done in accord with indexes, but I see this as sorta active, since the initial selection of "risk tolerance"--I think it's a bogus concept, tho I don't know why (yet)--is a way of timing the market in advance, even tho the buy/sell for rebalancing is a reaction after the fact (the algorithim signaling a rebalance).

    Thanks for the article.

  • Phillips 66: The Gift That Keeps On Giving [View article]
I once saw a near identical title to an article on Briefing.com, which said," Enron, The Gift Tha Keeps On Giving ". I bawt 100 shares, they soon doubled, then before I could throw a party for myself, went down to minus .25.

I think I'll have a better time owning PSX.

  • Bond ETFs Vs. Equity ETFs [View article]
Thanks much for this article. It brings up, maybe inadvertantly, how effed up the bond market is, how opaque, how digitally unkept it is. I learned this mostly from buying a few (real) bonds thru the "bond desk" @ TD Ameritrade. Gave me an unsavory feeling. The entire bond market needs a huge overhaul by the, albeit inept, SEC, to raise the transparency level at least as high as it is for stocks--maybe not very, but it's more transparent than for bonds. ETFs are good, but no one should think they actually own any bonds in owning a bond ETF (ditto gold and gold etfs).

There is no bottom I see. Peep trying to "play" a jump will be, as I think they have been, jumping out when they feel how hot the kitchen is. New lows pinging like a pinball game.

Higher than you'd have guessed ... at least, when treasury rates rise. But, a "bottom" may be here more or less. Sooner or later the stampeders will realize they have to risk capital somewhere to get what they really need: dividends.
