  • Mortgage REITs stumble as rates shoot higher [View news story]
The major driver of earnings is the spread between the 10 year and the 2 year... It has now risen above 1.5% , versus the 1.2% we've been seeing... This is good for interest spread, earnings and, presumably, dividends... So, if you are in these REITs the chances are dividends will be fine... and that's why you should be in these stocks... The market is not always rational... so, don't panic...!

  • Win Some, Lose Some [View article]
As a long term investor I would HOLD, unless you feel management is not effective, and will not invest SDRL's assets well... It hurt, for sure, to take the price devastation, and then see the dividend also be totally suspended - ouch...! Energy prices will come back... The question is over the next say 2 to 5 years will SDRL return above ROI vs. alternative investments, or not... Given how low it is today, I'm betting it will go relatively higher... Is there really much downside left...? I don't think so...

  • Och-Ziff Management: Come For The Assets, Stay For The Yield [View article]
A lot of confusion here... I am long OZM and do believe the main man, Daniel Och, is obviously the key variable here... I'm not expanding my position, but holding with expectations this will yield a significant return over the next 2-3 years... High risk, high return potential - not for the faint of heart...

  • Timing The Purchase And Sale Of Mortgage REITs Based On Interest Rates [View article]
In depth analysis, for sure... Thanks for the efort, and your sharing the results...

In general, my sense is that REITs are excellent investments for retirees looking for cash flow... A simple buy and holde strategy will yield 10+% dividend yields - which for me is quite good... For me, reinvesting dividends as a strategy would be better for value, dividend paying stocks which also yield some growth...

  • Seadrill: Perspective From Russia [View article]
Very relevant and important input regarding SDRL... I agree the 'bottom' has been hit at the $28 plus change range... The Rosneft deal is huge for future cash flows... This article helps assure me that my 'doubling down yesterday was not crazy... With a yield close to 15% - I decided to either sell or buy more - I chose the latter...

  • Making The Case For A Seadrill Ltd. Management Buyout [View article]
I would agree the price would have to be north of $ 40... With a dividend of $4.00/share/year, even $ 40 yields 10% to the buyer... and this dividend has been defended by Management as being safe through 2015...

  • Verizon Continues To Reward Shareholders As It Builds On Its Wireless Momentum [View article]
Obviously VZ needs to figure out how to reduce the debt vs equity... With cash flows booming, it might make sense to issue either Preferred Stock or more Common and pay down some of the debt that was incurred to buy out Vodafone... I'm long and looking forward to increasing dividends and price appreciation...

  • Seadrill: Should You Double Down Now And Go All In Close To Seadrill's 52-Week Low? [View article]
Great discussion - I'm long and trying to decide what my next move should be... Best in class stock, with high dividend yield for at least another 12 months , and a long term critical product for the world economy... Lots of reasons to double down, but lots of risk as well... My biggest concern is the Rosneft deal - but at then of the day, the world needs that oil, and SDRL will benefit greatly - again, long term...

  • Attractive Net Interest Margin And Potential Price Appreciation Key Features Of MFA [View article]
I agree MFA is a BUY - strong dividend, relatively small risk to interest changes and a diversified product strategy... Not to mention excellent management, and, for a REIT, moderate leverage...!

  • Avoid Seadrill Despite Wise Backtracking [View article]
I agree with Creese - there is higher risk due to the debt level, but the div yld is adequate compensation for the risk. Obviously, the decision to invest in SDRL depends on an individual's risk profile. With interest rates being historically low, the past few years have been an opportune time to take on this risk... The longer term financing decisions will be a challenge to management - hopefully revenue growth will make create alternatives that are financially optimal...

  • Seadrill -4.8% on plans to sell $1B of convertible bonds [View news story]
I would say the way SDRL invests the proceeds will determine whether this is good for the stock price - longer term. The potential demand for the rigs with the Rosneft deal could produce the need for further rig expansion, and thus more capital. Also, substituting the 2.0-2.5% bonds, for the outstanding 3.75% bonds is a good short term reduction in interest costs to offset the expanded debt... So, I would say wait before you judge this one.

  • Seadrill: A Good Opportunity To Buy? [View article]
Well written article - I agree with the above comments, as well. Does anybody really believe we have too much oil, and the future demand will be less .... and the revenue flow to the big oil companies will be long term decreasing... SDRl is a leader in its sector, and is ready to deliver great returns both short term, and into the future...

  • Seadrill Impresses Again With Continued Growth [View article]
The Q.4 performance was excellent. It is also who noting that the was a reduction in SDRL's current liabilities, offset by the increase in Long Term debt. This is a positive move by management - increases liquidity, and establishes long term debt at excellent rates. It also better balances the debt with its Fixed Assets... It's all good....
