I have a great book called "The Black Swan" by Nassim Taleb. In it, Taleb makes the case that humans think in the narrative. That means, they always have to have reasons for unpredictable calamities.
In my opinion, the calamity that right the ship is probably not that obvious, but the symptoms are there. Free trade doesn't work. It's never worked. why? Because like Santa Claus, it's a nice notion but really only kids believe their presents from Santa.
IMO, the Black Swan. that is the calamity that no one is predicting, will be a rapid rise in US interest rates. Everybody is invested in the other direction. The only market that seems to "see" this is gold.
