AMD Details Roadmap: Barcelona And Beyond [View article]
One benchmark, against a competitor's older part (why not benchmark against Xeon X5365) for a product that's supposed to be launched in a month? Talk is cheap. Show me the money.

In your previous comment, you said that chewers tend to be less brand loyal than smokers. In the above piece, you state that they are about equal. I happen to agree with your prior opinion. Chewers tend to defect on price, which is why UST's share has declined by > 15 pp in the past five years due to defection to Grizzly.
Why I'm Betting on Advanced Micro Devices - For Now [View article]
Your comments imply equivalent chip performance. If that were the case, AMD wouldn't be in the predicament it is in now. Since Intel's chips are superior (currently), I doubt HP can go with an AMD-only stance even if they acquire AMD.

Scenario 3 (HP or Dell buying AMD) doesn't make much sense. First, there are the manufacturing and architecture R&D costs beyond the up front purchase price. You think Dell (or even HP) is game for that? Second, do you think Dell will buy AMD chips if HP acquires them?

Sure, AMD invented the microprocessor and created the entire electronics industry. All Intel did was make some money, but I thought that's why we visit this site.
The news about INTC is a bit old. INTC has been executing well the last couple of quarters (as they used to) and has its chief rival pinned to a corner. While the stock may be overpriced, it is not the bumbling company it was in 2005.
I have seen IBM's technical paper that has a bunch of nice leakage charts and other technical data. But IBM has not manufactured anything complex on its process. That's where the rubber meets the road. When IBM/AMD announces a microprocessor on 45 nm technology, we can talk about peripheral things such as toolings and what not.
The Intel marketing subsidy appears to have been a big deal. Is Dell's operating margin affacted in a secular fashion by the cessation of this subsidy? Also, the impact on Intel's gross margin could be positive which may offset some of the sales loss.
Speculating About BJ Wholesale's Future (BJ) [View article]
Having been a member of both in the past year, I' not sure if Costco is a direct competitor of BJ's. Costco has far fewer brands and bigger sizes - so BJ's may have a niche. The competition from Wal-Mart Supercenters is more of a threat, in my opinion.
