A 32-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, Sandra Goeken Miles currently serves as President of the Goeken Group of Companies, headquartered in Naperville, Illinois. The Goeken Group comprises two wholly-owned subsidiaries – Global MEDNET, Inc. and PolyBrite International, Inc. Global MED-NET®, the world’s leading medical information storage and forwarding service since 1995, was created to instantly provide members’ medical records to any emergency room in the world. PolyBrite International is the developer of advanced technologies bringing LED lighting into the general illumination field. PolyBrite bulbs are 100% green with no mercury or hazardous material, last up to 10 years, emit no heat or UV rays and use 90% less energy consumption than everyday bulbs. Throughout her career, Ms. Goeken Miles crossed cultural barriers to provide air-to-ground telecommunications services to foreign countries. As the past chairman and CEO of In-Flight Phone International, and President of Airfone, Inc., Sandra helped lead the way in the air-to-ground industry. To manage growth opportunity, she set up international corporations with local partners in Canada, South America, Europe, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia, served on the boards of these corporations, and was Chairman of both In-Flight Phone Middle East and In-Flight Phone Europe. She did a reverse takeover of a Canadian company that became a public company, trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Ms. Goeken Miles was also instrumental in the startups of Business Telecommunications, which was sold to a Canadian phone company and Goeken Systems’ Mercury Network, later purchased by FTD. In 1992, President George H. W. Bush appointed Ms. Goeken Miles to the Federal Communication Commission’s Small Business Advisory Committee, where she was elected Chair of the New Technology subcommittee. Her committee’s reports were instrumental in shaping the spectrum auctioning for Personal Communications Services (PCS). In 1993, she founded Women of Wireless (WOW), a non-profit association to ensure women’s representation at the auction table for spectrum. Ms. Goeken Miles has addressed audiences worldwide on a myriad of topics. Sandra has served as an adjunct professor at Southern Illinois University (SIU), as a former Foundation Board Member and as past Chairman of the SIU Advisory Board of the College of Business. Southern Illinois University chose her as the Chicago Business Leader of the Year in 1993 and in 1995 recognized her achievements by presenting Ms. Goeken Miles with an honorary doctorate degree of Commercial Science. In addition, she has served as a board member for Joliet Junior College and University of St. Francis.
