  • Valuing A Triumphant BlackBerry [View article]
@yongzhu Do you have any actual facts to back up your assertion? Do you know what QNX is? Do you understand the growing importance of communicating securely at the personal level? I'm guessing its no, no, and no. Blackberry is going to find a very impressive niche, over the long haul. However those incapable of seeing beyond the end of their nose will not be present for the ride.

  • Oil & Gas Stocks: Pain, Then More Pain... When Is The Gain? [View article]
Far from over, and well worth watching.

While the elevator down is quick, the stairs up will be slow.

No need to rush, as the bottom is not yet known and the next top is a long way off.

    Stay patient my friends.

That is all well and good, and thank you for a comprehensive and well written article. Seems to me though, the inherent problem is that perception beats reality every time.

He is not short BAC because in this particular case he doesn't care to back up his adamant words with action, which should speak volumes to all readers.

  • Apple Won't Buy BlackBerry [View article]
Most likely no company will buy Blackberry anytime soon, because in the short term BBRY is not for sale and the future looks bright, regardless of the as yet undetermined fate of the BB10.

However, by far the most likely buyer imho is Samsung, a company that is looking to be a little less married to the vagaries of Android while seeking to be a player in the ever growing enterprise (read security) market.

I do not think that Blackberry will be a handset maker for much longer.

Nonetheless, I do believe that the company is chock full of value at this price point. Focus on the patents and the software and security. Blackberry can still do things that Apple, Samsung, and Google can only dream of, which is based around the idea of easily exchanging information in a highly secure setting.

DISC: Bought in @ $7.61, sold 75% @$14.34, holding the remainder long.

  • The Real Reason Saudis Didn't Cut Oil Production [View article]
A compelling article and sound points with an angle I had not yet considered.

    Thank you.

At this time, I have no direct skin in the game and am willing to wait as I see juicy buying opportunities of high quality companies ahead.

In my humble opinion, better entry points await.

    You're kidding, right?

  • BlackBerry Shareholders Cheer Up, It Will Get Worse [View article]
First of all, my condolences on the loss of your father. Despite the grief, there is much to be celebrated in the life of a man who lived to be 98 years old.

Regarding Blackberry, I am flummoxed by the movement in the SP. Blackberry may be on the right path, but this turnaround to a services company is akin to turning pulling a u-turn with a cruise ship in an ice flow.

It is going to take some time.

The truly unfortunate thing is that BlackBerry actually makes good products. The Playbook is the best bargain on the tablet market in terms of build quality, if you can find one. I see tons of people with old BB phones, phones that they have owned for years.

And now we are going to see bargain deals on the well built Q and Z series, as BB finds itself with a lot of inventory that they want to dump.

I suspect that down the short road, BlackBerry products will represent a better bargain than BlackBerry stock, and as a Canadian I wish the best for this company.

Mr. Chen accorded himself with aplomb and I think he is on the right track, but the road ahead is long and fraught with peril.

The word you are looking for is 'TENET' not "TENANT".

Your article is well thought out, and clearly expressed, and I thank you for sharing it.

  • The Sad State Of Smartphones [View article]
A well thought out article, however LTE is not faster than wifi and the majority of the market is not using LTE at the moment.

Secondly, I do not care one whit what Marissa Mayer thinks.

Thirdly, the British government merely stated that the Z10 OS has not yet met the standard to be regarded as a "restricted" device, so this means very little. Mark my words, this is not a big hurdle and it will be easily met.

  • Apple: It's Show Time, Baby! [View article]
Bought in at $460, and am overweight. I have never owned an Apple product and am no fanboy.

It seems we are at a "tipping point", where high expectations of new product is reaching pressure points that could bust the damn.

I worry that expectations are out of all proportion, and that even a whiff of disappointment will be a problem.

The next six months are crucial. If Apple has another "wow" rabbit up its sleeve then we are looking at google numbers.

If they don't, the beatdown will be large and further exacerbated by wider economic issues.

My bet is Apple wins, but for those who can't stomach risk, the time to get out is now.

Thanks to the author for a well conceived article.
