Why Apple's iPhone Doesn't Really Matter To Verizon http://seekingalpha.com/article/25513-why-apple-s-iphone-doesn-t-really-matter-to-verizon?source=feed#comment-80790 80790
The real question I see with the iPhone is how much of the UI and design is Apple versus how much is Cingular. If Cingular was able to apply enough pressure for pushing its own pay-per-use services, keeping things locked down (ie: no 3rd party apps), and keeping the overall experience about Cingular instead of the user, then the iPhone will be "just another smart phone". If Apple was and is able to maintain control in version 1 and beyond, then they will truly change the market the same way the IPod did.]]>

Also, I really wish the NY Times would "get it" and just open up all their content without registration. They would gain a lot more value from people deep linking their site versus the demographics they get from the stupid registration.]]>

Second - even if Americans were ready to make drastic changes to their lifestyle, what would it matter if Iran really did cut its oil supply? The price of just about every necessity would explode, and it wouldn't matter much how little John Doe drives if his grocery bill and heating bill is 3x as much.

Third - we know that there doesn't need to be an actual cut in supply to see it shock the world economy. All it takes is threat of a cut in supply or maybe a terrorist attack on Ghawar to send the price to new heights. If the US was actually burning through its reserves, can you imagine the resulting panic? No drilling in ANWR or Alberta oil shale would be able to take up the our slack and that of India, China, Japan, etc...]]>
