Is Mel Staying Or Leaving Sirius XM? [View article]
Good riddance to him... I love the guy because he made me money from 7 cents to $2.50... But let’s take a look at the whole pic from the moment he took the helm of siri...
He torpedoed the company to 5 cents!! Lol. Doesn’t matter if his ideas were seemed to make sense... implementing them torpedoed the company to 5 cents!! Lol.
the reason I love him is the only good he did was NOT do any more stupid things... after giving 40% of the company to Malone. Lol. He just let the company heal on its own and smartly paid off debt in the meantime. He was (we are were) super lucky the auto industry recovered and siri took a ride on that... otherwise we wouldn’t be here.
Now that Malone has the helm, or soon will, dump Mel and start fresh.
good news on car sales... but did you also see the news where Lazard Capital trimmed its estimates for Sirius XM citing the company's new contract with GM, which the firm says will eliminate GM promotional subs from Sirius XM's sub count starting in Q4 of 2013...
GM is starting to push iPhone SIRI eyes free integration into their cars... as i mentioned elsewhere before... this is a great example of auto manufacturers start to push new systems that integrate mobile phones more and pump it as the new technology, they will find ways to then get the consumers eye on the new tech as a value add and not need to push and pay for free sirius trials.
The 2.90 to 2.70 call I think realistically shows we are not talking 'end of world' of siri... but a subtle change that over a short time, the other autos will follow suit with new tech that will allow them to save money on paying for sirius trials and then you will see all manufacturers cease to offer.
But I hope Liberty ends this control issue as quickly as possible so that malone can go forward with whatever plans he has for sirius because with Mel it's just idling waiting for new tech like this to overtake any momentum built in the last years.

actually... mel is an idiot. he came into sirius and stock went from $6-7 to .05 cents. then he gave 40% to malone and its hanging under $2 and mel has no real leverage.
why? because he's saying to be cautious? you rather he say 'buy at these levels and hang on cause it's going to the moon.' geez, take the emotion out of investing people and learn to study both sides of the trade.

again it doesnt matter... the fact is that if they give the ability now for users that already have free or paid pandora or slacker or whatever to run on their dash with ease... you now give them one less reason to pay for satrad subscription. or they will try the paid apps first and figure it's ok for them than to pay whatever the monthly subs are.
or if they sub to MLB or, PNR app, or other apps, then they dont need the sports package on siri. or taken it further, MLB wont need to deal with SIRI either in broadcasting thru siri.
of course for pandora you have to consider that they will also have problems getting people to go from free to paid if users dont mind the few negatives in using free. or competition between internet apps will become more fierce to get more/steady users.

they are not playing angry birds on their dashboards while driving lol. they see their music/sports/news app and run it choosing whatever list, channel, game to listen to...
how is that different currently on my myfordtouch screen going back and forth between radio, sirius or iphone playlist through bluetooth and choosing channels?
i hope mel hasnt had the same type of position regarding other technoloiges and possibilities... of course maybe thats why there hasnt been any progress outside of auto subscriptions. i am confident malone will be better once the control issue has been settled.

imo it really doesnt matter... if pandora works on their phone for free and they have one of these cars that will show and play their phone apps in-car and they use it... it's still possibly one less user of satrad

at work, we have users playing pandora or slacker all day on their desktops... we have the bandwidth so we dont mind. i think there are a lot of people like that where at work they just set an account and slowly develop their music list and play 40 hours a day...
now just imagine those same people without much effort have their car show your app screen and then all they have to do is continue listening for their drive back home.
it just gives companies like pandora an opportunity... to transfer that stickiness from listening on pc at work... to car. siri needs to use the base they have from autos, and find away to expand better outside the car.

Content is definitely important too. i dunno... i have sirius in the car and enjoy just a few stations and one or two news like cnbc... definitely enough content that there will be something for everyone...
but also think that the new direction i heard of dashboards moving your apps to the screen... you're taking it to a new level of possibilities for content...
you have pandora and slacker and iheartradio mentioned all the time...
how about playing your mlb app for baseball, nfl or nba app for other sports... public news radio apps.
heck you can play your sirius xm app now and dont need the sat hardware. that's where sirius needs to step it up in that direction where they get subs through internet and not rely so much on autos.... auto companies will dump them if they get the chance to save money and direct peoples attention to the new tech.

that is one thing to really consider...
that auto manufacturers will move towards provding phone/app support and new touchscreen devices that integrate better to your phones and advertise and hype the mobile trend and use names like pandora and get people excited about that...
so that they dont have to toss in free trial subscriptions of siri anymore and save a few bucks on their end.
it wont happen overnight so no immediate effect on siri i think... but saying that will be the direction of mobile technology in cars and they wow new buyers with the new system when they see their apps on their console and play their pandora app or slacker or iheartradio app.

think of this...
mel and everyone understands that the vote is just procedural in this case because no matter how the shareholders vote... black isnt going anywhere... because the shareholders voted the same way towards black last year and nothing happened... it goes the way mel and malone want it... not how the shareholders vote.
this year you have liberty filing for control... and you 'say' you dont approve and with the meeting coming up and knowing blacks record, because he hasnt attended a single meeting since the last time shareholders voted against him, you can really put up a fight if you want by having someone ready to run up against him for his seat... an almost gauranteed power move if you wanted...
and there was no one in position to run against him and you try to quietly let the vote go and hope the issue passes without mention.
could it be mel is really not that smart tactically missing a clear op in not having someone at the ready to replace black? could be because i've mentioned elsewhere i dont think mel is as great is many here say (and are willing to forget the years leading to the .5 cent share price) or could it be... i dunno... something else.
