    It doesn't say you are down 57.1%, just that people who followed you would have been down 57.1%.

  • Tesla: The Model X Is Made For Rare Women [View article]
    Paulo clearly doesn't know anything about women. Some men prefer sports cars like Porsche 911 and BMW M4 over Model S because they're more agile, noisier, have more aggressive styling etc.

    None of the women I know care about any of those things (also confirmed by numerous surveys). Women prefer crossover / SUV, want cars that are safe and efficient.

    According to TipRanks, "If you copied Paulo Santos' TSLA ratings since 2011 and opened each position for the duration of 1 Year , then 20% of your transactions would have been profitable with an average return of -57.1%."

  • Apple : The Road To An ARMv8-A Based Product Stack And Higher Growth [View article]
    @Just Some Guy

    Not really. If you read the wikipedia page on RISC, the first sentence says "Reduced instruction set computing, or RISC (pronounced 'risk'), is a CPU design strategy based on the insight that a simplified instruction set (as opposed to a complex set) provides higher performance when combined with a microprocessor architecture capable of executing those instructions using fewer microprocessor cycles per instruction".

    RISC processors typically have shallower pipelines (Pentium 4 is infamously bad with 30+ stages). Modern Intel processors are about 15-20 stages deep. Interestingly, ARM A57 have 15 stages too (traditionally RISC processors have fewer than 10 stages).

    Instruction level parallelism is an orthogonal concept (you'll need additional stages to resolve wrong branch predictions but that's true in both ARM and x86). But you're right that the line between RISC and CISC is very blur. In my opinion, Intel is doing a lot of smart things than people give them credit for, and their competitive advantage mostly come from the work they have done in the past 3-5 years, not x86.

    Reference ARM A57 and A72 cores can execute up to 3 IPC.

    CISC just means it can take >1 clock cycle to figure out how long (in terms of # of bytes) an instruction is.

    > RISC architecture gets roughly one instruction per clock tick

    That is categorically false. IBM POWER 8 (a RISC processor) is capable of doing 8 IPC. Obviously that depends on instruction level parallelism in the code you're trying to execute.

    Intel CPU generally have lower IPC capability than POWER or SPARC (both of which are RISC) due to the nature of code being executed.

    PS: I designed a CPU during my undergrad days on an FPGA that is compatible with MIPS. Feel free to AMA CPU related.
