  • Commodities Today: Troubling Times Ahead? Data Is Trending That Way [View article]
Really scratching my head on btu... Also bought at 18 to avg down to 20 now at 16.50?? Seems to be fighting two battles - slowing growth etc., in EM economy's and the administration (EPA). Increasing gas production hurting too unless price goes higher. Thinking should see bounce but no sustained move till one of those problems resolved. Long term hold?? don't know. Sad...

  • 3 Waste Management Dividend Stocks: 1 To Buy, 1 To Hold And 1 To Avoid [View article]
Thanks, but I like WMs prospects - did trim when passed 39 (too early it seems) but more on personal sentiment of market run up and owned much lower. Will hold and likely buy back on any sell off. They have a strong position in the waste management (trash) business. Derivative housing play... Just my opinion.

  • Future Quite Bleak For Rare Earths Miner Molycorp [View article]
If ever there was a company that is ripe for a govt. sponsored infusion / investment of cash than MCP is one. Wiser folk than I may find flaws w/ that, but the strategic value of a domestic ree producer must be huge. Considering the geo political climate - allowing one country to literally have a strangle hold on ree resources is not wise. $500 million to MCP would have been a much wiser grant than bankrupt Solyndra. I agree w/ the more positive comments - as for encouraging investment into jr. ree miners that sounds like hype...

  • Get Out Of Coal Stocks [View article]
Coal still over 40% of elec generation in the world... over 70% in China, India and Australia.. 50% US. Nuclear and hydro only 15% each. Not going anywhere soon. Never underestimate the desire of the Chinese leaders to pacify the populace to stay in power. Could coals heyday be wanning? Possibly but likely not considering frontier mkts looking to develope power generation. Agree w/a earlier post - over sold. Interesting (China ghost towns, etc.) If there was a multi-year global recession, suspect we'd have lots of exciting late nite news from China. No doubt we need China, India etc to grow for coals future. Would help alot for the world to not have a big govt. social engineering liberal as next pres. in US... how's that working out for the EU?

  • As U.S. banks face stricter capital standards due to Basel III regulations, some are exploring whether they can use intangible assets held by their borrowers, such as patents and trademarks, as collateral in order to cut the risk weight of their loans and overall capital requirements. Banks have always had the right to sieze such assets in a foreclosure, but aren't able to count them against the loans security due to the difficulty in calculating a firm value.  [View news story]
This is just the kind of idea (crap) the continues to erode the trust in banks - if this type of stuff gets thru than it proves there is no real substantial effort to protect the tax payers from getting ****** again. Intangible Assets - imagine fighting over those in the courts. You think some company is going to part with their patents or trademarks because of a loan default, or a violation of loan agreements. Part of the reason you would not want to count same as a tangible asset. Sounds like a license to steal...

  • Don't trust this rally; it's a major bull trap, says currency analyst Christopher Vecchio. Pressures on global financial markets are too intense to support a sustained run in stocks right now. All it will take is just a few gusts of negativity to derail the entire train.  [View news story]
Currency analyst making a market call, alot of worry out there... Got to think market negative bad news more likely than not, but who knows, things can turn on a dime. Does anyone trust a opinion in the near term, let alone the long.

  • The proposed Keystone XL pipeline would raise U.S. gasoline prices, according to the National Resources Defense Council: The pipeline would divert crude oil from the U.S. Midwest to Gulf Coast refineries geared to producing diesel fuel for export, which would reduce gasoline produced for U.S. consumers and raise production costs, making the fuel more expensive.  [View news story]
"National Resources Defense Council" ...who? Ridiculous
