  • More on BlackBerry's (BBRY +2.7%) annual meeting: Thorsten Heins responded to a question about exploring licensing deals by saying BlackBerry will "pursue every opportunity to create value for shareholders." But he also insisted BlackBerry "must create value" before strategic options are considered. Heins disagreed with a shareholder who called the U.S. Z10 launch "a disaster," and blamed disappointing sales on partner efforts (previous). "I talked to staff at many points of sales and they were inadequately trained or not trained at all … marketing materials were missing."  [View news story]
Features and advantages over other platforms. There is a learning curve on Z10 with swiping and no home button. Amazing phone once you are use to it.

  • "Here's a novel way to drive up a company’s share price," writes the NYT's Jeff Sommer. "Pay billions of dollars in additional taxes." Forensic accountant Robert Olstein reckons that companies such as Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Cisco (CSCO) should repatriate the tens of billions dollars they hold abroad, pay tax on it, and then use the rest of the cash to repurchase stock. That would boost their share prices by at least 20%.  [View news story]
I don't like the idea of share repurchase for most tech companies. Look at RIM spending billions on buy backs when it should have gone into R&D or ads. They need to keep innovative and keep the brand cool.
