  • BP: What's The Catch? [View article]
Bought BP at 42 and am holding. For the most part, I actually like the fact that they are selling off non-core assets, including Rosneft, wind, solar, etc. My read is that they are divesting themselves of peripheral units and focusing on profitable oil and gas operations in a way that they haven't had to for quite a while. Some of those assets did produce profits, but none that I am aware of were a significant part of the long term picture or meaningfully diminish reserves. See industry report: http://bit.ly/1nAINJ9

  • A Little Known Hero Bringing Shareholder Value And Bettering The World [View article]
Thank you for the article. Can you explain their accounting treatment of Deferred Income Taxes on the balance sheet and the positive impact on revenue for Income Taxes? Deferred income taxes represent over 1/3 of assets.and income taxes are 30% of net income. Confirmation of Intangibles such as the exclusive approvals mentioned by 'sitsinplace' would seem to be vital information. Also of note is that in 2012 dividend payout was 60% of cash from operations. And with return of capital? Acts like an MLP.

In reviewing the data, these appear to be more trailing indicators than leading indicators; certainly true for employment numbers, especially.

  • Lessons For This Week: 24 Fundamental, 2 Technical Market Drivers [View article]
Excellent overview. Definitely a time to trade rather than invest, but $85 billion a month in Fed debt purchases can levitate the economy longer than we might expect. At least until the next Euro debt crisis.
