  • Exelon: Best In Class Power Fleet Valued At A Fraction Of Replacement Cost [View article]
Bring up a 5yr chart on this pig. Look at 5 years worth of eps, cashflow, dividends. All negative. The only thing up is revenues. Trends that are well reflected in the move from almost $60 to Fridays new low of $26.45. Lester Burnham once said, "it's never too late to turn things around". But excelon's going to have to show me something before it gets a shot at my money again.

  • All Eyes Will Be On Ford And Alcoa At The Detroit Auto Show [View article]
When I read about the aluminum 150 I figured it's a gimmick. Like so many other gimmicks it's hard to justify cost for so little benefit. But last week I had a poker game. Every one of these guys has a high end suv or pickup, not that they need them. And every one of these guys can't wait to see and maybe own the new 150. It's as cool as it gets in pickup-land and I'm betting anybody willing to spend 50k+ on a pickup truck they have absolutely no use for won't balk at another 1500 bucks for a totally cool aluminum one. I'd been thinking about buying F stock when it took a dump a few weeks ago. I got in the morning after that poker game at $15.31. You go Ford! Btw, never owned a ford. I drive a vw gti.

  • My Top 10 Highest Conviction Stock Picks For The Year 2014 [View article]
Totally agree Michael. And EXC cut their dividend 40% last spring. Never a good sign. This one's more likely to be on my Bottom 10 Conviction List. Got to be a better place to put your money!

  • Wells Fargo: 6.6% Yield And 25%+ Upside [View article]
Buying a security 20% discounted from par with the idea it will be called in 5 years is pure guess work afaic. And I'm guessing all those folks who bought it new issue in March and are now down almost 4 years of dividend payments wish they hadn't. That's just a little sample of where this security is headed if rates keep climbing. imho

  • A Safe 8.1% Yield From This Utility [View article]
I don't think D has to pay 8.375 for money. Even sub money. My guess is unless 10's are over 5% these will be gone in June. Pass.

  • Retirees: Should You Consider A Dividend Growth Income Index? [View article]
I too need the income to live on but have had trouble finding enough 6% plus dividend payers (my bogey) that I am comfortable with. I've been buying lower yielding high quality names and very conservatively writing call options to enhance the yield. I've learned over time I can turn a 2% into a 6% without so much risk of losing the position versus trying to turn a 2% into a 12%! What I really like is I've been able to play in names my minimum yield bogey would normally exclude. fwiw

  • Lew rejects "prioritizing payments" [View news story]
Comical our idiots in congress can't seem to understand they've already spent the money. If they want to balance the budget going forward have at it. I am all for it. But it won't change the fact they're already 17 trillion in debt and have made all kinds of budget commitments that can't be undone without turning our nation into deadbeats.

  • Most on FOMC continue to see taper this year [View news story]
Hard to look at where we are now, the brink of default and economic disaster, and believe we're on the brink of taper. I'm sure things seemed different a month ago.

  • Moody's: No need to default if debt ceiling not raised [View news story]
All this means is 5 more weeks of nervous markets while both sides play hardball until the last second and there's no time to work out a meaningful compromise. What a bunch of fools.

  • Boehner ties budget, debt cap legislation to cutting deficit [View news story]
I haven't seen the house propose or pass a cr that didn't call for defunding of obamacare. If they have, my bad. BTW, I am no fan of obamacare but it's a non-starter in negotiations and the tea partiers know it. I hope the two sides can come up with some budget cuts and entitlement reform to keep this sinking ship afloat a little longer. We'll see.

  • Boehner ties budget, debt cap legislation to cutting deficit [View news story]
Oh I see. Repealing obamacare was never the goal of the GOP. This was all about budget and deficit negotiations. Right. Time to try and save a little face with PLAN B. Good luck with that. These clowns don't get on the same page very often.

  • Obama: No negotiations while government is shut [View news story]
Why wouldn't Obama take a hard line. These ploys typically end with the republicans looking like a bunch of dysfunctional chumps.

  • Sell side: 5C not cheap enough [View news story]
This phone costs over 700 bucks in china. I don't see how this is going to appreciably grow their market share over there and I thought that was the whole point of the "C".

  • The Wonderful Wizard Of O [View article]
I follow numerous reits and O hasn't been punished anymore than a lot of the others. And part of the reason was it was up so much already. They all roared through 2013 right up to mid-May (O was up 30% in 5 months), they were all way over-bought, and when talk of the taper began they all crashed. Compare the charts of O to HCN or HCP to name a few. They're identical. If you think rates are going higher, I'd be dipping my toe carefully into any of these income payers.
