  • Missed By The Market - Domestic Crude Production Is Falling [View article]
FYI -- Bloomberg TV ran a blurb this morning about China buying oil hand over fist. They also ran this article:

    http://bloom.bg/1JqiW2o

EXCERPT: "The world’s second-biggest oil user has boosted its strategic petroleum reserves as benchmark prices tumbled 19 percent this year. Oil’s slump makes crude so attractive to China that even the surprise devaluation of the yuan probably won’t deter its ambition to hoard supplies, Energy Aspects, KBC Advanced Technologies and Nomura Holdings Inc. said earlier this month. More than 80 million barrels of new strategic-reserve capacity is scheduled to start operations this year, and China will continue buying to fill those tanks, said Energy Aspects. Building emergency supplies accounted for 49 million barrels of crude imports in the first half, or about 268,000 barrels a day, according to Citigroup Inc."

Well said, Edi222. Among market sages it's a given the debt side leads the equity side. To be clear, the notion is that debt is smarter than equity.

  • I Love This ETF: Vanguard Emerging Markets Government Bond Index ETF [View article]
omar -- My preference is buy when my target ETF or stock falls to the lower portion of its trading range. VWOB is certainly entering that lower range. While some investors possess the talent to nail absolute bottoms, my investing skills are such that I consider myself doing well when I can buy in the lower third of a trading range. Some of my investments are sold when they enter the top third or their range, but some I buy knowing I'm going to hold long term. VWOB is one of the latter.

I marvel when I look at the opportunities available to investors today via products like VWOB. Not that long ago gaining access to sovereign emerging market debt would have been a challenge too great for me. Now, with the click of the buy button, I can own assets that enable me to diversify my portfolio in ways I once could only dream of.

I've been in VWOB since its inception and have added along the way. By coincidence I was looking at it today, thinking about adding again. I appreciate the unique exposure it provides my portfolio, and the dividends are sweet.

I heard Soros hedged via protective puts vs shorting. Buying protection while it's cheap as it has been is smart. He also added to GM holdings.

  • General Motors: Taking Another Shot At This Multi-Billion Dollar Opportunity [View article]
It is gratifying to hear GM is investing in India. These days it seems it's all China all the time. India's emergence looms large, based on everything I've read about it. It's likely that at some point in the not-too-distant future India will be receiving as much attention as China.
