  • RIM (RIMM) is in talks with mobile handset and PC makers about licensing the company's BlackBerry 10 operating system, new CEO Thorsten Heins tells Bloomberg. As to fears that he will be unduly influenced by Mike Lazaridis, Heins declares, "make no mistake, I run the company."  [View news story]
i just can't my head around how RIM wins against Apple, Android and Microsoft when Apple and Android are already killing it and Microsoft will spend themselves into oblivion to catch up with Apple/Android. Was a blackberry faithful 4-5 years ago, now I'm short at $16.

no, but sprint does. they are at least as cheap as t-mobile. plus t-mobile was supposed to merge with att so i doubt t-mobile doesn't have an iphone because its too expensive.

this reminds me of all the buzz about the death of facebook when google+ came out. people are desperate for an apple killer and it makes for good articles. you'll never get the same experience when you have 2 different companies building hardware and software. both are trying to maximize their margin and as a result, the product suffers. the reason blackberry was such an awesome device circa 2003 is because they kept hardware and software together. same with apple today.

just generally i don't think its wise to say that you can take 1 company that's messed up mobile software for a decade (msft) and another company that's messed up almost everything for the past 5 years (nokia) and make a gem.

    guess we'll see.

this is devoid of actual data. how much more expensive is an iphone 3gs on att in the us than an android phone? not much, if any. the phone is free with a contract and the service is almost the same price. blackberry is just a junky phone with a crappy app store and iphone email, calender, etc is equivalent or better.

microsoft has screwed up mobile for almost a decade. no reason to believe they will ever get it right given what a dysfunctional organization they've become after google and facebook took all their great employees. their ceo thinks a tablet and a laptop are basically the same thing but one doesn't have a keyboard. enough said.

  • This Time, Let Apple Estimates Be Conservative [View article]
agree with this plea. apple is valued like a battered industrial stock, not a company growing at a mindblowing pace. weird psychology when people think they miss earnings when they don't meet the expectations of over exuberance.
