  • The recent Reuters article detailing the scale of SandRidge (SD) CEO Tom Ward's personal greed and contempt for shareholders lays the foundation for TPG-Axon's delivery of its official consent to SD today, effectively starting the 60-day period for SD shareholders to vote on the hedge fund's proposals to amend SD's bylaws and replace the current board with its own slate of nominees. [View news story]
As I have said before, Ward should have been fired years ago.

  • RIMM's (RIMM +13%) rise follows yesterday's 17% surge in Toronto trading, which was sparked by a target price bump from the first analyst to raise his rating on RIM shares. Kris Thompson cites “positive sentiment building in the industry" ahead of the BB10 Blackberry update. On Tuesday, Jefferies' Peter Misek, a longtime RIM critic, raised his rating and price target on the stock. [View news story]
I have alleady traded RIM starting at $7 and I holding onto it for the medium term probably around $20.

  • More on CSX: Q1 earnings beat on both revenue and a per share basis, despite anemic coal volume growth due to slumping demand. Net earnings still managed to rise by 14% Y/Y however, as the railroad reported an 8.5% increase in intermodal volume, which helped to offset the decline. Intermodal volume accounts for about 35% of CSX's overall business, while coal volume accounts for about 25%.  [View news story]

  • Genesee & Wyoming's (GWR -1.6%) March rail traffic fell 13.6% Y/Y, and Q1 traffic slid 9.2% Y/Y, mostly due to huge dropoffs in coal shipments. Coal represents the largest volume of traffic on U.S. railroads, which have hauled nearly 200K fewer carloads of coal this year than last year. CSX -1.1%, UNP -1%, KSU -0.6%, NSC -0.4%.  [View news story]
