  • Are The Dow's Top-Yielding Dividend Stocks At Risk? [View article]
    AT&T analysis-
"The annual dividend yield of AT&T is presently 4.7%"

    Verizon analysis-
"The yield is 4.8% [for VZ], which is less than AT&T's 5.3%"

I also would like a further explaination of the massive payout ratios. It seems like I've heard of telecom doing this but I've never quite grasped it.

  • Record Physical Demand Will Begin New Gold Investment Cycle [View article]
    IT-
Yeah I didn't buy any. But that's supposed to be the cheaper stuff and it's selling for $28.50! I was looking on ebay and other sites and the prices for ASEs are still $30-$40. Provident had some for $29 which is amazing nowadays.

I've been hearing complaints from a lot of people about the 90% coins wearing down. Also I wanted to get the Panda coins just for heck of it until I found out they are NOT 1 troy ounce of silver.

  • Record Physical Demand Will Begin New Gold Investment Cycle [View article]
    Interesting times-
The local coin shop here doubled its price over spot for generic rounds, of which they had 5 left yesterday... I've been noticing a total disconnect between the spot price and the market price of an ounce of silver.

    Tom-
Regarding Pershing, how long do you think it will take to get the newly found gold at Relief Canyon into the market?

I've heard some say that it is proof that the cash being held overseas is too difficult and expensive to deploy here in the states.

"you need to have a quick cash pile and not be "fully" invested."

-Like I am right now. It's killing me. I wanted to buy PG and IBM this week and add to AAPL, but of course I just have to watch from the sidelines. I do have a little bit of an excuse since my account is so small but still, missed opportunities.

  • Homeowners Choice: Housing Recovery Side Bet [View article]
The immediate risk is in this years hurricane season, which I keep hearing is going to be more active than normal.

    http://bit.ly/ZKaIbk

Of course I'm not worried about this because if a big hurricane causes a sell-off or even a real expense for HCI, the DRIP is just going to pick up even more shares.

I liked the article, short, sweet, to the point.

  • A Dividend Sin: Selling Coke To Buy An Apple [View article]
I hope Apple will raise their dividend but I honestly don't know. They have no history and are legendary about keeping us in the dark.

Another hesitation I have about this being a long term hold (10+ years) is the fact that it is a technology stock, it isn't food or utilities. I can just not buy an ipad but I can't refuse to pay my power bill.

I may be getting too picky but regardless of the above cautions it's too dern cheap so I'm long AAPL

I think conversation got a little off track. While I disagree with RIQ's other statements, I do agree with his mindset.

"As investors, should we invest less in automobiles and more in mass transit?"

Another way to ask that question is, how can I make money off of this? Any ideas?
