  • Who Can Retire By Age 65? [View article]
Problem is that you are making it simpler than it is. There is inflation and years before you are funded.

  • Why The Market Keeps Going Up [View article]
Is it really that high of a market when we are just passing a mark set 5 years ago. The market would always be near a high under white swan days. Imagine if we always thought that a new high was too high.

    What has happened to us?

It is cool that we live in a day and age where we are smart enough to turn these decisions over to someone like Ben.The dude takes it from all sides and serves on.

  • Which Of The 6 Cigarette Makers Is Most Attractive To Dividend Investors? [View article]
The last two articles in the last two days that compared all of the cigarette companies came up with PM and MO as the best. I bought LO cause it was low.

You would find that sustituting any high-risk asset for the treasuries would increase the chances of having enough money at 65. Of course it also increses the chances that you will fail miserably.

"I assumed a standard deviation (volatility) of 12% for the dividend paying stocks." kind of makes the exercise depend on the quality of that assumption..

  • 20 Signs The U.S. Economy Is Heading For Big Trouble In The Months Ahead [View article]
Looks like the author can make a lot more money writing fiction for the reducated crowd than even the authors that pander to the dividendren. We need gold to make a little run to spark the creative energies. I suppose a nice market correction might help too.

  • Team Alpha Retirement Portfolio: Dividend Investing Vs. Annuity Purchasing [View article]
You have reach your concusion about me but I still don't understand why one would compare an annuity to dividend stocks rather than to another "low risk" investment. I am a bad person but you are saying duboius things.

Your comment does not say anything about dividends or annuities. It almost seems like you are taking my comments on dividends personally.

I present no evidence because I know it will be of no value. We have had this discussion before. Last time we crossed you were convinced that an all dividend stock portfolio had the best chance to survive the great depression.

Like I said dividend stock are always absolutely the best investment option in the comments section of any dividend article. No matter what the investment goals are.

I know that dividend stocks are fail-proof in dividend articles. Like I said before, I don't know why any other investment vehicle exists.

About the personal stuff. I strongly disagree that dividend stocks are a reasonsable substitute to an annuity. Dividend stocks are equities and are of much higher risk.

The vast majority of my last (and most of my) comment(s) was about the portrayal of dividends on SA. That is my interest here. Just as you don't care about me, I don't care about you.

"Hmmmmmm wonder if that is what you actually are" my profile is accurate about what I am or was. I'll add that I am like almost everyone else commenting here attracted by the word "dividend". So many people tout them as the solution to every problem that I kind of figured I'd ask the question really? I have seen articles promoting them for young investors and here on the other end of the spectrum for the most conservative investors. Every time I ask really, I see the same people getting agitated.

I buy dividend stocks. I like the idea of getting dividends. I understand the appeal. I need money and they pay me money. That feels good. Good feelings play with your head. I can understand the appeal. But just because it feels good doesn't mean that it is best.
