  • Apple's e-book deal cleared; Beats Music chief to run iTunes Radio [View news story]
" Billboard reported Apple was mulling an Android iTunes app"

My guess is the acquisition also eliminated the need to mull this and start work on implementation.

As long as Wells' HQ stays on the other side of the country from Wall Street, I trust in my investment and the company leadership.

If this whole thing was a trial balloon, let it fly away. There's no kid inside.

  • More on Apple: Skepticism follows Comcast report [View news story]
Have to agree. I already pay $160+ a la carte + package for Satellite. Started with Comcast and the services cheesed me so much I switched. After three years I tried Comcast again, and again service was sub- standard. At the price I'm willing to pay I won't put up with that plus the substandard menu+DVR options. My point being I'm willing to pay for content and I'll pay a little more for a better interface, just not with Comcast. I know the stoy is Apple +Comcast , but for gosh sakes I hope it trickles out to the other providers.

  • The Fed Loves To Hate Citi [View article]
    This phrase is significant:

" It is also important to note that the Fed allowed Bank of America (BAC) and Goldman Sachs (GS) to confidentially submit less aggressive capital plans last week when the first part of the test was announced..."

While Corbat may be guilty of trying to do too much too fast, he should have at least been afforded a level field on which to play.

  • Apple: Steve Jobs Was Right [View article]
Not sure where the rest of the analogy went in your message, but when I look at where Kodak is today I think of their early lead in digital cameras. I purchased one because even at the cost then ($800) it held promise. Kodak did not hold faith and exited, perhaps thinking film would last forever.

And when we think of innovation, think also of ecosystem. An overused term perhaps, but all those mechanical functions in the iPhone get loads of back-end support in the dev community, and for the most part in non-current iOS. Apps become more clever, broader uses are discovered, and the real innovation comes after presentation of the biannual new platform, with its new capabilities.

  • Apple CFO Oppenheimer to retire [View news story]
I would be fine with better returns on the money they are investing. But when I think of the infrastructure builds and proactive supply-chain purchases Apple has made and continues to make, I am happier that ample cash is on hand to make it happen.

  • Banks ease standards as mortgage business slows down [View news story]
Many folks have held on to a job and made their payments but couldn't get a sniff from their mortgage holder because their FICO scores just weren't up there. This gives them a little hope.

  • Apple Remains A Good Short [View article]
An anecdote regarding subsidies and a maturing market (as stated by AT&T's CEO): A couple I know recently bought their first smartphones which are both iPhones. Both have been long retired from their tech jobs but had no need for a mobile connection until just recently. They bought the phones outright because they could get a better deal on their cellular plan than with a "subsidized" model. They chose iPhones because they felt it was a better value for the long term.

A relative's co-worker told me he bought three full price iPhones (2 5s, 1 5c) for his family with basically the same argument.

Their actions confirmed my decision to buy my next iPhone outright also. I think many consumers have reached a point where having quality hardware that just works, and having the freedom to choose carriers is worth the cost of owning outright. That behavior underscores Apple's strategic advantage: hardware that benefits from a rich ecosystem and upgrade cycles spaced far enough apart to make economic sense.

  • Smartphone Subsidies May End; Apple Might Suffer Withdrawal Symptoms [View article]
+1. My contract with AT&T is done and my 4s is unlocked. I have already decided to buy my next iPhone unlocked. The resale market will cover 1/2 the cost of my new phone.

  • Could The Grinch Steal Apple's Christmas? [View article]
@flyboy: There's another apropos motorcyle slogan from back in the day: "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet. If your head is worth more, buy a Bell."

I've watched Apple ever since they partnered with Tandem to sell hardware, also back in the day. As a Unix gearhead then I could not see the synergy in that relationship until I worked with a team that had taken the then-new Quicktime technology on Macs and paired it with an automatic teller machine control system powered by Tandem. That resulted in a system with the lowest ATM downtime among major financial institutions, and the first to have ATMs running 24/7.I've kept an eye on them ever since and only wish I'd converted all my CPQ to AAPL when I had the chance.

  • Bank Of America CEO Under Pressure [View article]
Moynihan is focsued on steering the good ship BAC through heavy seas. Neither his stock nor BofA's will rise if he turns tail now. Buffett quipped "Be greedy when others are fearful" and if indeed the stock does hit single digits within the next 12 months I am an interested repeat buyer.
