Just a retired bureaucrat and pedant here who finds himself finally living his father's life. Saddled with the responsibility for managing his family's fortunes, like the Ancient Mariner, first reconciling myself and then finding beauty and joy in the mundane business of managing money. I like and collect old things...philosophies, stamps, coins, Wedgwood, what have you. My wife hates old things...except me, of course...or so she says. It's a life...and, for at least the time being, better than the alternative.
Semi-retired marketing and sales executive with a second career in the travel business. Actively invest an upper six digit portfolio in half a dozen mutual funds as well as a couple of stock brokerages accounts, most of it IRA. Primary goal is income with some appreciation potential.
Close to retirement age but plan to keep working for some time to come. Have invested in stock market sporadically, mostly confused and scared. It hasn't worked very well. Have a lot to learn, learn a lot from many SA folks and enjoy the sharing here.
Historically about 60% invested (minority is stocks along with a lot of "other") with 40% cash. Aiming at this stage to put more of the cash to work, and since I'm underweight in stocks/bonds, am focused there, especially but not only DGI.
Expect that I can avoid taking much if any income out for 15-20 years (except tax and the RMD), unless something unexpected happens--not a long compounding period but better than not at all.
Born in 1958, I am a small investor who has taken his lumps. When I started out, I made a lot of money trading. Then I lost twice as much, when market conditions changed but my methods didn't. Intellectually I believe that dividend investing is probably the best way to go. However, I am still addicted to searching for a good deal--call it value investing, or swing investing, or what you will.
I am a 72 years old retail investor. I would describe myself as an income investor. Even when I buy non dividend stock I do so with the Idea of using covered options to create income. My main focus is on energy, mining, chemicals and timber. I manage two SEPs one CRT and a trading account with a professional FA. We have been together since 1990. I do the fundamental research and he does the tech. work.
