  • Why Buy The Dow When You Can Buy This Single Stock? [View article]
compare 5 year, 10 year...almost any time period for total return on PG and Berkshire. P&G is very good, BRK is better. What will the next ten years bring? Good question.

thanks for the article. It has me thinking..and I appreciate the effort

  • Fastenal: The Greatest Investment I Never Made [View article]
While the story is a great one to illustrate the "can do" attitude of the people of Fastenal....I really have to wonder about a company like Ford, where they had to use a non standard bolt....

Who uses a non-standard bolt and, does not have a set of replacements in the stockroom? Fastenal.... smart!...Ford??...not so much.

  • Welcome To Fair Valuation, Coca-Cola [View article]
    David:

True enough...you have an excellent point.

Of course, if the object of my desire is a car, and i know it will depreciate over time in vlaue, a bargain is more important. If I am purchasing a house or a share of Coke, I do so with the idea that it will appreciate in value over time (hopefully, ...no guarantess in life) and so the price I pay can be a bit more flexible. ( Don't get me wrong, i bargained for weeks on my house and bought it for a very good price in my eyes, but looking back, I could have gone higher and i would still be very happy today with that purchase) Entry point is important, of course, but some high quality stocks offer little oppurtunty for "sale pricing" . I would include Coke in that category.

I just hope those who are waiting for $35 are

    1) willing to watch the stock climb to $55 over the next ten years without them or
    2) have another stock in mind that will provide them with the same return and relatively safety of Coke.....

and 3) if 2 is the answer..would you please share? :)

  • Welcome To Fair Valuation, Coca-Cola [View article]
Hmm I see people here talking about their target prices for coke...and many are dithering over differences of about a dollar a share.

Makes me wonder, if you decide not to buy now over a dollar......what will you thnk of your decision ten years from now, when coke is selling for much more than it is today and you missed all those dividends on a rock solid company??. Discipline is one thing, missing an oppurtunity to buy "an excellent company at a fair price " and looking back ten years from now is quite another.

I applaud discipline..and if you know of another company that is low risk and pays out as well over time as Coke, then by all means..share your wisdom..please!! I always love to hear new ideas. But, I have found that my past method of holding tight to my displined approach to stock purchases at "ideal prices" has caused me to look back years later in regret....not always, but on high quality stocks, i found I often kept waiting on the sidelines, while the price and the dividends left me behind...... Just my experience perhaps...

Have a Coke and a Smile!!
