Okay, let me give a personal example of benefiting from gov intervention:

    1. As an AIG policyholder, I sufferred a business loss that qualified for coverage under my policy.

    2. Because I and millions of AIG policyholders would have been left holding the bag totalling massive losses if AIG collapsed, the government stepped in.

So instead of bemoaning bail-outs of big companies, think about the little twit holding an AIG policy and how much it meant to me and my lower middle class employees to save what little we have.

  • On the Disconnect Between the Market and the Economy  [View article]
i think the whole approach to the market has changed as more and more people abandon buy and hold mentality. money can be made in these day rallies regardless of the overall market. that's powerful. remember, the most successful traders are OUT of the market more than they are in the market.

Mark: I think you need to take a look at 1998, which was known as the Russian financial crises. See the S&P head and shoulders pattern, the break down, the death cross....... and then see what happens. It is darkest before dawn.

  • No, it's not 1932, Amity Shlaes agrees, but there are some troubling similarities: instability in the international currency arrangement, the lack of commitment to boost trade, and - most important and most eerily mindful of 1932 - imminent tax increases.   [View news story]
why always go back to 1932? take a look at 1998.

Mark, take a look at july to oct 1998 on S&P. i see a lot of similiarities. i remember back then it was labeled the russian financial crises. and then of course the market took off.

i'm also targeting a low of 952 with a strong snapback.
