  • Apple +3.3%; App Store revenue rose 50% in 2014 [View news story]
@ JM, yes I will soldier on in hope that one day Apple will make it to the big leagues. I'm sure WS will find this to be the death knell of Apple. But what do I know I'm a "muppet". ;)

... $500M in the first week of the year; so $0.5B a week here and $0.5B a week there. Pretty soon you're talking real money.

You can also add on the positives' side that they are both a little less exposed to the current downdraft of foreign currencies against the US$. I think this will be an issue in future quarterlies for more tha a few DJ (and S&P) corps.

  • Investing Versus Speculating In My DGI Portfolio [View article]
I like the fact that you ignore the market price for your initial research on this new portfolio, and by doing so probably provides for a higher level of conviction. Although, as you pointed out in the last graph, the past doesn't always predict the future.

And, not to be picky, I think the PEP P/E is incorrect. Don't think it's in the 90's.

  • U.S. opens door to condensate exports [View news story]
Just checked in again (2 hrs later) $56.23 vs $53.19 leaving the spread now at $3.04. If that ratio (speculation?) continues parity would be reached at $49.00 per barrel.

Spread between Brent and WTI dropping/converging to less than $3.45 a barrel at this time from around $5.

    $56.94 vs $53.54 (4:00 am NY time)~ -1.66% vs -1.13%. Coincidence?

  • Canadian banks lower as BMO kicks off sector earnings [View news story]
There are only about 650M shares outstanding, so this represents about 2.3% of those. Nothing unusual.

  • Bank Of Montreal 4QFY14 Preview: Focusing On U.S. Growth [View article]
" .... more established companies ..." I'm not too sure what the author is referencing with that summation. Bank of Montreal is just past its' 197th anniversary as it was founded in 1817. RBC and TD were founded in 1864 and 1855 respectively.

  • RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust (RIOCF) CEO Ed Sonshine on Q3 2014 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
This is one of the first companies I invested in. It continues to evolve with the market(s). While I was hoping for at least a nominal distribution increase I can say I was'nt really that surprised they will be holding it at the same level well into 2015.

On another note, thanks SA for covering this less followed (basically foreign) company. I can see less than 500 people receive this email. Thanks again.

  • Suncor Energy: Focused On Capital Discipline [View article]
@mhmp, while that is not specific to Suncor's fundamentals, it is a question pertaining to the Energy sector in general. My crystal ball has not been working all that well :)

Geopolitics, flight to safety and the $US, slower rate of growth in China, more fuel efficient vehicles, Saudi Arabia's statement of its intention to maintain market share, export possibilities of land-locked continental energy being exported offshore reducing the spread to higher priced Brent ... the list is quite extensive and can change virtually overnight. Each investor will have to weigh those factors and their likely outcomes both short term and long term.

@mhmp, check the price of WTI for late June, it was around $107 a barrel. Today it's heading below $90. Compare it to other integrated energy companies with major assets in N.America.

DrT, the only thing that comes to mind is the announcement by Enbridge that it has completed the reversal of Line 9 through Ontario. It will begin filling that line with western heavy crude around Nov.01/14. Suncor is the main shipper for that line currently and it will go to their refinery in Quebec for shipping to the Canadian/American east coast or elsewhere.

  • TD Bank Shines For Its Shareholders Again [View article]
While the stock price of TD has retuned to its early July '14 level in Canadian dollar terms, I think one has to look at the exchange rate of C$ vs US$. I think one will note a possible reason for an approximate 6% decline in price ~ one of the risks with foreign domiciled corporations (exchange rates).
