  • A Look At Solar Stocks And How Much Lower They Will Go (Part 1) [View article]
If massive power plant tenders stop forcing fossil fuel base in deserts , the solar stocks could see a big market open.

I spent considerable time on contract with Shec Energy, a Canadian CSP and storage innovator. I was seeking power purchase agreements in order to build a very profitable solar farm.
I was amazed how politics effectively barred renewables from bidding on billion dollar tenders, even though Shec's solar would come in at a much lower cost than oil and just slightly higher than coal. Shec is a game changer about 6 months away from commercialization and selling shares to accredited investors. Worth doing DD.

  • Solar And The Boom-Bust-Boom Of Technology Markets [View article]
    Hi Dana,
Shec has been in the trenches for sixteen years and appears to be about 6 months from going commercial. For any investor willing to do DD, the ROI opportunity is in the range of 10-30 X in three to five years.
Engineers make the popular investor class for the company. If any of the three major advances claimed are for real, it is hard to imagine the market can ignore such innovations.
Disclosure: Shec Energy is my largest holding.

Canada's SHEC ENERGY reports patenting an number of inventions in utility scale concentrated solar thermal power and storage that when scaled up, represent a major reduction in costs per KW hour and would be disruptive to the CSP industry. SHEC reports a rapid manufacturing process that is at least eight times faster than the fastest parabolic mirror forming methodology.

SHEC's main breakthrough is a solar beam receiver that can process heat over 825 degrees C and is likely the only such technology in the world, having an emissivity loss of only about 2%. (parabolic trough technology is about 55% loss)

SHEC has a proprietary liquid that can store heat at 850 degrees C (conventional medium molten salt is only at 560 degrees or lower) with implications for baseload power and increased turbine efficiencies.

SHEC ENERGY has an MOU with Sweden's Cleanergy to build waterless (no steam turbine needed)solar sterling engines which can make PV obsolete. Swedens’ Cleanergy has an order for 10,000 solar sterling engines that can be made with SHEC’s receiver. Efficiency conversion rate is about 32% or about double that of typical PV tech. SHEC ENERGY is a private company engaged in a funding round at this time.
SHEC ENERGY was selected to participate in the Obama administrations solar trade mission to India in 2009 and has solar farm MOU’s in the region dependent on completing the integrated pilot plant. There is an MOU being negotiated with a South African jurisdiction to build a solar farm up to 500 MW.
Germany ( after a due diligence visit to SHEC’s lab)has offered a $40,000,000.00 grant to build a parts factory there , but this requires matching funds. There are a number of applications for these technologies including utility and village scale power both, efficient energy storage, hot water, air conditioning, industrial heat for smelters and any remote power needs where there is no grid connection. Institutional funders are waiting in the wings for the next integrated technology pilot to be completed (by end of the year at this rate imo) at which point parts factories can be built and literally billions of dollars worth of projects capitalized. Imho this company is worth doing DD on.

How does that *counter* ECB bond buys? Off the top I would think this augments what the ECB is doing. Can anyone explain to this newbie what the heck is going on?

  • Is The Solar Sector Facing An Eclipse? [View article]
A shareholder website designer was gung ho. The company imho is worth doing some DD on. They were selected to participate in the Obama administrations solar trade mission to India in 2009 and the *hype* can be measured by any competent engineer. Indeed engineers make up the majority of the important investors for this company. While not on the website, Shec has an MOU with Sweden's Cleanergy as is in the process of creating what I believe to be the world's first commercial scale solar sterling engine. There is also a $40 M grant offer from Germany ( who did DD and sent their engineer to Saskatoon) to set up a parts plant in Germany. This requires matching private capital, which should be no problem once the work on the PPA's is done and a deal signed or the first large order from Cleanergy is in. My best guess is that an order for 10,000 solar sterling units should be had in January with a good profit margin. What excites me about this is that the water problem for CSP in deserts is gone and off grid villages with no power suddenly become customers for a technology much more efficient than the best PV out there - with a novel baseload power and storage solution for larger centres.

There is a paradigm shift in CSP and storage. Shec Energy, a Canadian innovator is accepting accredited investment, likely until the end of the year. The technology collects and processes heat in the 850 degrees C range, compared to molten salt at 560 degrees C max.

  • Oil And The Canadian Dollar [View article]
The author is another idiot that puts zero value on the lives lost to cancer as chemicals leach into local communities from TAR sands operations. Big oil has gouged the tax payer in Canada for billions of dollars in corporate welfare subsidies to operate in the tar sands while at once getting dirt cheap royalty rates compared to any sane country. The Conservative government in Canada keeps the pork coming to oilcos so donations to the Conservative party can keep rolling in, again, mostly subsidized by the majority of tax payer who voted against the Conservatives. To reduce embarrassment, the Conservatives have slashed hundreds of jobs from Environment Canada and fired whistle blowers. the Cons are the same crowd that blocked the electric car from operating in Canada for years to protect oilcos and gasoline makers.
