  • Be careful what you wish for: While D.C. politicians harden their positions on spending and taxes, austerity has already taken root in state governments, and it's killing the recovery. Daniel Indiviglio says cuts on the state and local level have knocked $8.8B off GDP and thrown 326,000 people out of work.  [View news story]
People you are missing a bigger picture here.

With the present political course, it is going to be a Hollywood drama series, until the 2-August. This is the Best a bear market could dream off.

Another view that is not explored is the after default political scenario.

What kind of power is the president going to have after a default?

  • Apple (AAPL) is reportedly dumping Intel (INTC) chips in favor of ARM-based (ARMH) chips for its laptops and possibly its desktops, SemiAccurate's Charlie Demerjian writes. Apple's alleged move to ARM processors is expected to take place "as soon as possible," likely when 64-bit variations are available by late 2012 or early 2013. ARMH +5.1%, INTC -0.7%, AAPL +0.9% premarket.  [View news story]
ARMH has been around for decades, INTC is now moving into ARMH main business area, and seems to get it right.

It is ARMH that will have difficulty entering INTC small server.

  • An Eye on Investing in the Era of Mass Computing [View article]
When talking about cloud infrastructure, and the world as marketplace, a business must address a data theft scenario and Natural disasters.

You could argue that the security is not that big a thing with, when talking about high school students word documents.

A business, may have government regulatory compliant, that the financial records are placed inside a country´s border.

Perhaps companies like Microsoft or Cisco, would be displeased if their developers use Chinese or Russian data centers for their development documents etc.

And what happens with a small business documents, if a cloud center provider goes broke.

There are serious other Business critical subjects a management team have to address when choosing business partners. IT cannot be ignored.

  • 10 Reasons This Is Not a Sustainable Rally [View article]
    Bret

You have written a very good article, and all the "thumbs up" comment clearly makes the point on were the economy is right now.

    1. This has turned out, and is still in the progress to turn out, the BIGGEST refurbishment of the economy in the US.

    2. Deflation on salary has the most negative impact on the economy as a whole, and the companies that have not adjusted its prices to the new levels, have gone out of business.

    3. China is in the bubble definition, witch is an "economic growth were a sound majority of different people thinks it cannot reverse".

    4. "sustainable" is when the amount of full time jobs, is, percentage wise, growing higher than the inflation rate.

    5. US competitiveness in healthcare comparison to companies in EU. Well were I live, companies don't pay a dime in heatlhcare cost, in EU, healthcare costs are provided by the state, paid over taxes. This is a clear advantage to EU companies, and not US companies.

    6. The investor confusion is when companies report increased orders, less turnover and profits, but the same profit margin. Ergo deflation is the key to "jobless recovery".

    7. It is not all companies that have adjusted to the new business price reality. The costs of borrowing money is still the same before the recession.

    8. Main street small business, have seen what is happening and have seen the opportunities and alarms that exist. But cannot get credit to act.
The most clear indication for this, was, when small business were allowed to borrow money from the small business office. The money ran out, but the mood was so much improving for the better.

    9. The almost unseen opportunity, is that China is exporting all its raw materials to the US/EU at discount prices. And they are now located in the US/EU landfills and Warren Buffet made the investment in this area some months ago.

    10. A new trend in deficits, it is being reduced. According to usdebtclock, US federal spending, ..Budget deficit, is starting to reverse. Total us debt peaked at 54$ Trillions a week ago and has dropped by 45$ Billions to 53.955$ Billion in 7 days.

That is my 10 views on US economy.

  • Why Does the Market Hate Intel? [View article]
I Agree with tew, there is a lot of other deals you could make in 10, 20, 30 years, that would be more profitable. Why wait so long for profits?

Intel is a great company, but in comparison Intel is going like Nokia, Nvidia, they popup in stock prices and then falls when apple or ati/amd makes a better product than their competitors do and they release a crap product.

The Intel stock, is a zero grow stock, and they are not creating new products. Their senior management needs a Steve Jobs like figure.

  • With news that the deficit will top $1.4T again this year and next, Derek Thompson looks at debt-to GDP and says this isn't your grandfather's burden: former heavy indebtedness was caused by wars or recessions that came to an end, but now it's about inside factors (promises to seniors made years ago).  [View news story]
There is to much politics in reducing the debt, just remember what President Obama said at the last G8/G20 Meeting.

"He is calling the "republican" bluff", that they do not want to cut.

It is a shame to see that President Obama truly has used the two biggest concern atm, Jobs and Debt, to promote a political gain for himself.

How dare he, put the entire US economy on hold, until January, it is a disgrace. History will not, in any way, look kindly on him on this issue.

  • Nokia's Problem Is Not Microsoft's Problem [View article]
I am going to buy the lumia 925, and sell my older Lumia.

I am not going to buy an iPhone, I already have a 3gs, and a 4s, and getting a iPhone 5 or 5s is simply pointless.

The difference between the iPhones I have is the same boring pc refresh. The iPhone does not have any news other than faster CPU and more memory.

I am not going to buy an android phone, because of the security problems it has.

I do not want my accounts security and privacy ruined by android.

  • Nokia: It's About Sending A Message [View article]
I am bullish about Nokia, and they gave a hint on how they have payed for NSN and Q2-2013 results.

    Link to the press release.
    http://bit.ly/14I7hVx

The last section of it, is the positive news.
    - Start -
At the end of the first quarter 2013, Nokia had gross cash of EUR 10.1 billion and net cash of EUR 4.5 billion. Nokia currently estimates that at the end of the second quarter 2013, Nokia had gross cash of between EUR 9.2 billion - EUR 9.7 billion and net cash of between EUR 3.7 billion - EUR 4.2 billion. For comparison purposes, if the transaction to purchase Siemens' 50% stake had been closed during the second quarter 2013, Nokia currently estimates that it would have ended the second quarter of 2013 with gross cash of between EUR 9.2 billion - EUR 9.7 billion and net cash of between EUR 2.0 billion - EUR 2.5 billion, reflecting the deduction of the purchase price of EUR 1.7 billion from Nokia net cash.
    - End -

This Means that Nokia have not taken any loss, but will Loose between 200 Million € and 800 Million € in Q2-2013 of its Cash reserves. Which is very bad and probably the reason why Standard and Poor's downgraded Nokia once again.

In a financial sense, it would have been prudent to wait another Quarter and then have the Money and not take any impact on its Cash reserves. But then Again, if the seller smells that the buyer in fact had more Money the Price would be higher than 1,7 Billion €.

Nokia´s Q2 results would show that the business have returned profitable and they made a loss on the purchase of NSN.

This will result in 2 days of negative selling after its Q2 results and every investor have to understand the business politics behind in prolonging a negative result.
